I really am enjoying the pi 5 era: hobbyists can enjoy all manners of functionality with HATs.What has been a welcome development is the combining of otherwise separate add-ons into one board. Heatsink, fan, m.2 all in one.I have run into issues where, when separate, you run out of space within an enclosure, or even experience physical space conflicts as various products haven’t been engineered with things like a heatsink or fan clearance in mind.

I've been looking for a top hat cooler and M.2 adapter for an RPI5 that will fit in the Argon Poly+5 case. This seems to fit and functions as expected. It took a very long time to get but once the Waveshare supply chain is in place it should take much less time. I've paired it with a spare 256GB M.2 drive that I had on hand and so far it is working well.

The cooling fan with the M2.hat is definitely designed with cooling your SSD off at the same time which is badly needed. The Raspberry board itself gets pretty hot on load, and the SSD is naturally hot while powered on. This fan helps alleviate heat issues on load and is definitely well received. I highly recommend this kit as a great all in one kit for M.2 adaptation.

If you want to get the most of your PI5, you need active cooling. The combination of an active cooler and an M.2 adapter is brilliant! I have tried other M.2 adapters. They generally obscure the GPIO pins and the active cooler. You want the active cooler to have unobscured air flow... to do it's job. You probably bought the PI5 to use the GPIO pins. With this hat, you can.In addition, since the two features are combined, this has the lowest profile of any M.2 adapter that I've seen. My M.2 SSD sits level with the active cooler. So, I can actually stack other hats on top of all of this without any problem.

The new Raspberry platform can be an amazing device. Its small size makes it unique in the computer field. One thing that has come to various builders' attention is the necessity of adding a cooling method to the device. This board has that cooling built in. It allows you to add an NVMe SSD, and the heat will be dispatched with the attached fan. I find it commendable that this manufacturer has seen fit to address an issue before users start having overheating issues.
