This pneumatic caulk gun really was a spectacular upgrade over a normal hand-powered version and a fraction of the cost of an electric version or some of the other pneumatic units. I was able to neatly apply 8 tubes of caulk in less than an hour around the base of the garage wall, a major improvement over the manual styles.Mechanically simple and reliable. Worked flawlessly. It uses the existing piston in the tube combined with compressed air. No moving parts besides the trigger. As straightforward as it gets.Excellent value, costing what it should for what it is.Some notes:-The trigger is designed for a single finger and doesn’t lend itself to any other pull method besides the pad of your trigger finger. Hooking your finger around the trigger gets uncomfortable quickly. It’s a minor gripe but one to be aware of. It does have some feathering capability, allowing a user to adjust dispensing speed without changing a regulator setting.-Tube-to-tube viscosity changes will impact the width of your bead and how long it takes to apply a full tube even with the exact same opening in the nozzle. This is not an issue with the gun but can be easily addressed with a mini regulator at the tool. Same batch of tubes, same manufacturer, same nozzle opening size and a couple tubes were much runnier than others, changing the dispensing speed dramatically.-For most silicone caulk I found 20psi to work well, though I had to back it off or adjust my technique depending on the qualities of the tube currently being dispensed.-The threads for the tube and end cap are wide and fast to spin, but can be a little fiddly to get started. Your mileage may vary on that factor.-Because it uses your normal tube of caulk for all its functions, there is nothing to clean. Toss the empty tube and put the gun into your toolbox and move on with life. Perfect!Overall- 5 solid stars. Wish I would have bought it years ago.

You will need an air regulator to control the material coming out. It works very well.

I waited to review until I had tested this with different caulks and bigger jobs. This is an absolutely fantastic tool and a joy to use. It is built like a rock and simple. I expect that I will never need to replace it.The trigger releases the air pressure as soon as you lift your finger, but it takes a short time for the air to leak out. However I find that I have better control of stopping the caulk than with a manual gun. I find that I could deliver a single droplet the size of a pea, or push out a half inch continuous bead of thick caulk by control of the pressure and the trigger. Just fantastic.I tried the gun without a pressure regulator at the gun instead using the regulator on my tank. This did work somewhat. There were two issues. First everytime I wanted to adjust the pressure I had to run back to the tank. Second the hose between the tank and the gun swells and holds air. This gave me erratic pressure. With the regulator at the gun this does not happen. The regulator only cost $10. Definitely worth it.Too much pressure, I tried to push out a plug, causes the rear moving seal in the tube too distort. This lets air into the caulk, so that the caulk sputters and spits. Clean out any plug by hand or suffer the consequences.Thin caulks are actually harder to control than thick ones, but it can be learned. The seal is on the back edge of the tube so the tube must not be cut, bent, dented or it will not seal.It does not couple with a coupling nipple. Order one of those also. $2.50I found jobs reduced from hours to minutes. I just wish it would prepare the job, not just caulk it. This would make great gift for Christmas.

I hate caulking almost as much as sanding but this tool makes a caulking much easier. This is a pretty good tool but it doesn't get 5 stars from me. I just completed caulking around windows and doors using exterior silicone. The tool does work fine and for my old hands it's much easier to caulk than with a hand ratchet model. I wish I had gotten one of these years ago. I used 15-20 psi and it worked fine (got that info from another review here at Amazon). As long as the trigger is pulled the caulk comes out at a reasonable pace. When you release the trigger the caulk stops although I had some dripping (not anything like you get with a hand ratchet unit). The unit seems well made and I'm expecting it to last a long time. It is fairly priced IMHO. It's nice that it works with standard 11oz tubes. (I've noticed that some caulk manufactures and now selling tubes of caulk at 10.1 oz., in the same size tube to help fatten their balance sheets, without telling the consumer.)Here's what I didn't like. 1) the trigger is pretty small and sometimes awkward to use; 2) there were no instructions on use, none (nor could I find them at Astro's web site); 3) the pistol grip handle is really smooth/slippery (I was using mineral spirits to clean my latex glues as I worked and on the handle it was very slippery) making it difficult to hold and control; 4) as I got to the end of a tube it operated less well (it seemed like the the flow was a lot slower than when the tube was fuller.Looking back on the overall experience I wish I'd popped for the Deluxe unit. I can certainly recommend this for someone who has a lot of caulking to do and already has a compressor. I don't think I recommend it to a pro,
