After 17 years of continuous use, my shower valves started to leak, so I went looking for a replacement.I had some trouble finding the right part since they radically changed it, but I eventually ended up here and ordered two of these valves. (attached pic shows the old valve and two new valves - one with the plastic cover removed). There's little argument that the original brass valves are superior, but these replacements with their plastic alterations (to save money) do the job. I appreciate that I can still get a working replacement rather than installing a new valve body. You now require a plumber's socket to install the new valve since you can't just put a wrench on the valve as was the case with the originals.I give it 4 stars since I suspect that I won't have to wait 17 years until I have to replace them.UPDATE Apr 2024: Well, as I stated in the previous line about longevity, I have a stem leak in one of the valves. Seven months isn't as good as the 17 years that my originals lasted.Since there are no other replacements, I just ordered another pair of these. Disappointing.I wonder how long they have lasted for other people.

There are a lot of good posts here, but I'll try to consolidate some tips. I installed my Price Pfister 3 lever handle tub and shower set 23 years and am pleased that I could rebuild without too much effort. The most tedious part was researching for the part. One drawback of Pfister is that they are a "big box" (Lowes/Home Depot) supplier, so your local plumber or local plumbing supply won't have access to the part.First, as others have pointed out, the 9100300 does indeed replace the older style. I called Pfister Customer Service to make sure. Be careful when you remove the tape when you remove the valve from the shipping tube. The O-ring and ceramic disc does fall out easily. Second, you will need to remove the black housing to install the valve and will need to flip the white plastic stop lever for the hot side if you want reverse action. (CCW to open cold, CW to open hot) You will need to rotate the stem a bit when you flip the lever. If you want to replace the diverter while you are at it you will need part 910-0200. It also helps if you can remove the access panel just to make sure there are no leaks after the install. Also, do yourself a favor and and spend another18 bucks for the Danco 60505 Shower Valve Socket Set. Overall, I've been happy with my Pfister tub/shower set, and hope to get another 20 years.

Don’t worry that this shutoff valve looks different than the original ceramic unit. Pfister changed the design but this unit is the correct numbered replacement. When I first saw this ceramic unit I was puzzled how it works as there didn’t seem to be a valve seat and rubber washer like the traditional valves. No worries. The water flow is controlled by the ceramic valve and works well. You can use a wrench to get the old valve out but will need a plumbers socket to put the new valve in.In order to attach the decorative handle sleeve back on there is a plastic cover that is screwed on (comes with each valve). Also works well.If only one valve is leaking replace both because they are the same age and you already have the tools out!The valve comes to you with “on” counter clockwise. If you are changing out a valve that has “on” clockwise, you just need to take off the white plastic ring on the stem and flip it over. Once you reseat the plastic ring back into the brass slot, you would have changed the direction of the valve. Kind of weird but it works. One word of caution, it is easy to accidentally push the bottom of the valve out and the working parts with it. So be careful as you unpack the valve. Fortunately for me, I had purchased two valves and could learn how to put the messed up valve back together based on the still assembled valve. Not hard in retrospect but it was a learning experience.Sorry to not have taken more pictures.
