Simply gorgeous! I was eyeing the salt mill along with a similar pepper mill for quite a while and finally my sweet husband helped me to pull the trigger, he asked me to buy them for "HIM" for Father's Day coming :) And I did! Such a beautiful set it is! The boxes of the mills were not giftable to be honest but obviously that was the reason their price was discounted. I tossed the boxes anyway. Love them! Absolutely!

This copper coloured mill is large and is easy to grip in the hand. It has several settings for fine to coarse and I've tried them all. You really can regulate the degree of fineness of your salt at any point along this line. It's easy to remove the top and fill it with rock salt which is a consideration when older hands become arthritic. I can open this but I have real trouble with my old one.It has a letter S on the screw cap but I'm sure you could easily use it for pepper too.It comes with a sachet of salt. I find it a really good grinder but I question the price. Is this down to the copper finish? I probably wouldn't buy it for just this reason, unless for a special gift.Excellent but expensive.

I'm typically not that impressed with colorway/livery choices -I'm decidedly in the function over form camp so I'm not inclined to pay more for a particular aesthetic. To that end I was looking for a more mainstream version of Peugeot's mills and happened to see that this over-the-top copper one had an Amazon Warehouse version for sale at upwards of 60% off so I bought it. Well, this thing is beautiful. There is almost a three dimensionality to the luster and sheen (my pictures substantially understate how stunning this thing is). Granted I would not have paid full pop for this mill but I *almost* understand why people would...anyway let's talk functionality. This mill actually has an infinite number of grind settings. They demarcate six of them with lines but there is no detent/retention so it can slide seamlessly to coarseness you want for your grind. In my last picture you can see the unground crystal size at the top and then and example of the 6 marked settings below (1 being the finest at the lower left and 6 being the most coarse at the top right). Each graduation is distinct and shows a fairly linear increase in grind size. This mill is great!Peugeot is known to be one of the best mill mechanism and this example is purely embedded in its Peugeot heritage. Just an easy smooth grind at any setting. No binding, no struggling, just easy cranking with an easy flow of salt as Peugeot is known to do. My only gripe is, candidly, not very reasonable. When moving from a coarser grind to finer grind, it needs to be cranked along the way to clear the grinding mechanism. That's a minor pain but obviously the grind plates can't get closer together if there are larger pieces of salt (from a coarser grind) still in there. There is an equally unreasonable solution to my unreasonable gripe, which is to put a clutching mechanism in so that the grind thickness is decoupled from the mill plates. That's more cost and that's an additional failure mechanism.Ultimately, would I recommend this salt mill? Yes, if you can find one from Amazon Warehouse at an incredibly low price. But I would 100% recommend, generically, any Peugeot mill that fits your budget.
