I ordered these in size Large. They were not quite wide enough to go over my hiking boots, jeans, and especially my calves, and allow the Velcro to perfectly align. This did not keep them from staying closed and staying in place though. The Velcro was wide and stayed stuck together. They have a little buckle at the top which allows you to cinch the top of the gaiter around your calf. This was very helpful. There is also a rubber strap that goes under the arch of your foot and can be adjusted to help keep the gaiter in place as well. The straps at the top and the bottom seem sturdy. The metal hook, which is supposed to hang onto your shoelaces, did not stay in place at all. Every time I checked, it was just hanging out. I am not sure if it’s because the gaiter didn’t fit quite right over my calves or if the hook is not sewn in the correct position. It’s possible some weed seeds might work their way up underneath if the hook is not attached where it’s meant to be. One part that was really annoying is that the hook is on the side with the TOP layer of Velcro. This means you can’t position the hook and then close the gaiter around your leg. Somehow you are supposed to close the gaiter and then stretch and pull it to get the hook where you want it to go.Each gaiter has two tags inside: one gaiter has the tags L L and the other has the tags L R. As I assume you should use the top buckle/cinch in such a way that you pull the slack to the outside, LL means left and LR means right.I dripped some water on the gaiters and found that within a few seconds, the water started slowly soaking into the upper material. The beaded up water droplets started “sticking” to the lower material shortly after this, indicating that they were no longer being repelled completely. Both materials were called ‘waterproof’ in the listing but they are clearly not. It’s not a deal breaker, just know that your legs/shoes may not stay dry if you’re hiking in wet brush. I hiked after it rained and found that the gaiters repelled some of the water and absorbed some of it instead of my pants or socks getting soaked immediately, which was nice.I made sure to wear the gaiters through poky grass, sticky seeds, and even Oregon Grape (kind of like holly with thorns along the edges of the leaves.) The seeds stuck to the exposed Velcro as I expected but they did not hang onto the gaiter fabric. I could feel the Oregon Grape slightly poking me through the gaiters but it was a huge improvement over walking bare-legged through the brush. The gaiters did not appear to be damaged by any of this. The listing states that size Large is: 15.35” H, 17.32” top opening circumference, and 16.93” bottom opening circumference. Mine measured 15” H, 16.375”-16.625” top opening circumference, and (trickiest to measure) 16.25-16.5” bottom opening circumference. These measurements are somewhere between size L and size M, so they came smaller than advertised. If you are close to maxing out one of the measurements then order the next size up. I actually needed the gaiters to be the measurements that were stated in the listing, not what I got. Because of the tiny (1/8”!!!) difference in the top and bottom opening measurements, it’s almost like they were made for straight legs. I have big calf muscles, and these gaiters don’t want to close around the thickest part of my lower leg. The two gaiters are not the same size, and my calves are too large for both. If the top opening would have been as listed, it might have been fine, but they came smaller than listed. I can get them closed at the top and at the bottom, but there is just no way, even in shorts instead of jeans, that these gaiters will close fully around my calves. I will say that the Velcro is nice and wide and even though the Velcro did not align completely around my calf, at least the gaiters did stay closed and in place… just looked kind of dumb as the Velcro was bowed out around my calves.I got another pair of gaiters recently, Sofiey brand. I tried them on again because I thought maybe they had fit better when I was just wearing shorts instead of jeans. It turns out they are cut differently than these PATIKIL gaiters, with much more room around the calves; plus the Sofiey gaiters actually fit over my jeans and give around 3” more room around the calves. While those were slightly more expensive than these, I feel the difference is reflected in the fit and in the positioning of the bootlace hooks. If you have smaller calves/pretty straight lower legs, these might work fine for you. Or, maybe you will order a larger size and cinch the straps down to make them fit better. For me, they are less than perfect, and will work ok to keep most of the weed seeds from working down into my socks and boot laces, but the design could be improved. This set of PATIKIL gaiters will be my backup gaiters, as they do not fit around my calves well. However, the material does feel sturdy and they seem like they will hold up to weed seeds and scratchy brush.

The leg gaiters arrived, on time, well packaged, and defect free. The leg gaiters were ordered to provide extra protection to my legs while hiking. The combination of being waterproof, and resistant to sharp thorns made these an easy choice. The leg gaiters are secured with a velcro strap on the top, providing adjustment for leg size, and a plastic adjustable loop that goes around the bottom of your shoe, keeping the gaiters in place. The leg gaiters work as advertised.

I ordered a size M as those were the length I wanted. They are very wide around the top of the leg though although you can gather them in at the top using the top adjustment buckles. On my previous gaiters the bottom strap (which was less robust) did fail and was easier to replace as it had buckles on both sides rather than just one but perhaps this one will not fail so easily due to the thick TPU material which looks very good and robust. The material is strong and waterproof and I do like the colour.Overall I like these but would have preferred them to be less wide.
