Removing 3 small formed tabs with a file or rotary tool allows DeWalt 404 models to run 6" drop center discs with this guard! Awesome!

Guard works well and has met all expectations. I have a couple 4.5" DWE402 grinders and I wanted to upgrade the hand guard for larger wheels. Modify at your own risk. Always check the grinding wheel/disc rpm rating and the rating on the tool.There were two very small modifications that can be done with a file to make this safely fit a 4.5 inch grinder, model DWE402. File down one small nub that will not fit in the key-way. It is the smallest of all the nubs. After doing that you can file down the back of the ring (remove between 1/32" and 1/16" ) so that the remaining nubs will align with the groove just past the key-way. If done correctly, everything lines up just as the original 4.5" guard does. It will rotate and lock into each notch just as the original does. Now your grinder fits wheels up to 6" ezpz.

Works well, solid sturdy. Difficult to get on and off however.
