This tester has little to know instructions. So, if you are new to cable testing and don't know what you are looking for, this tester is not for you. It worked great for me was pretty straightforward to use. Quick and accurate results for testing and assessing cables.

I used to make ethernet RJ-45 cables for my work for years, but it had been a long time. I went to add a centrally-located switch to my new home ethernet network after we switched from DSL to Fiber-optic, but my provider would only put the entrance cable and router on an outside wall space. All lmy previous DSL connections to the router were in the basement. So, I had to make an extension.I made the cable easily enough, but it didn't work. Color-code was correct, both ends... could not figure out what was wrong.I ordered this thing, and it arrived within two days. I had watched youtube videos on these things, so I placed one end on the upstairs side, and the other on the basement plug, and turned it on.Instantly, i found the problem; the white/orange pair (1/2) were completely OPEN.I went downstairs and upon cutting off that plug (to redo them both), literally the whte/orange pair fell OUT of the connector! My connector was defective and didn't have the metal teeth to grab/pierce the cable leads.I reterminated the cable end, redid the test, and instantly knew it would work.200mb/sec data rate (my limit) and all is well with my new network.Highly recommended. Even comes with the 9-volt battery to make it work.
