I did not realize that the cage goes around the battery compartment and make it hard to use with a dummy battery without having to unmount the cage. Otherwise seems like a good cage but will have to return it for this specific reason. Other cages that I've seen don't have this issue.

I’m not familiar with the Nitze brand as I usually use Smallrig, but this one seems fairly comparable and there’s a lot to like about it. First off it is really rigid and strong, it will have no problem holding the Canon camera, even the larger R5 C. And there are a TON of mounting holes all over it, on every side, top and bottom! The NATO rail on the side is a little on the small side, but the two cold shoe mounts are welcome. I do like that the battery compartment is still accessible when the camera is in the cage. One really nifty feature is the flat head screwdriver that stays attached to the bottom plate magnetically so it’s readily available (this implementation is actually a little better than Smallrig’s). The main thing I have to nitpick on this cage is that it is not a unibody frame, meaning it’s not a single complete piece of metal. Each side is a separate piece bolted together at each corner. Now that’s not to say that it isn’t rigid or sturdy— it very much feels solid— but each connection point is a possible point of failure. It shouldn’t be an issue for most people but if you’re using it for major production where you’ve got a bunch of arms and extras hanging off the cage, it is something to consider.Overall this is a really good cage and will get the job done. As with all camera cages, you’ll just have to examine it to be sure it has the mount points and features that you need for your particular use case.

I own a half-cage for my R5, but I've been thinking I need a full cage for when I do a lot of off tripod work and run and gun for my news work. So, I ordered this cage, hoping it would at least approach the quality of the SmallRig 1/2 cage that I have for my R5. I'm happy to report that this cage is solid and very helpful. One thing about SMallRig cages for the R5, they are pretty tight. Infact, they can scratch up the R5 they are so closely milled. I use those camera skins on my R5 and the 1/2 cage sometimes has a really hard time going one. With this Nitze cage, I had no problem getting the cage on, even with my camera skin. I really like that the bottom screw for the tripod hold has a small wrench attached in the cage itself. In fact, it is much better secured that the smallrig ones which have a tendency to drop out when you are not looking. There are supplied with the two hex wrenches you need , including the smaller one for the safety screws. It comes with the cable guides which I didn't install for the pictures. One little thing was the base sticks out further than the camera in the back to accommodate another mounting hole for the tripod. Lastly, this cage is about 1/2 the cost of the usual cage, so why spend more for almost the same thing? I'm going to start installing my NATO rails tomorrow and will be using this as my default cage for the near future!
