As a half Dominican i would say this is pretty good. Maybe the comb could be a bit smaller but not bad. Gifted this to my BF who wanted to be part of the parties on Christmas and although he is not an expert he does pretty well. The length of the comb can interfere with the movement of the wrist especially if ur going fast but not bad at all.

As a American man with 🇩🇴🇩🇴Dominican blood playing guira all my life... I don’t know what many ppl are complaining about this Guira for the price is A+++ size is perfect looks professional( want a Pro Guira need to go to DR get it custom made) but it’s prefect for family jams, etc etc only minus is the scrapper is huge May be a problem for some.. May need to buy a smaller scrapper.*the tin can sound that many complain about is a quick fix just put a piece of foam inside the guira and you’ll get that crispy Merengue Orquesta guira Sound... or roll a towel tightly in there with do the job if no foam is available.-Rob

Very happy with this guiro. It did ring a bit much at first; I suspect that would be true of any of its competitors. I ran a strip of heavy gorilla tape on the inside along the seam; that solved the excessive ringing for me. I have already recommended it to a friend. I don't much like the scraper due to its size, shape and heft, so along with the guiro I got the LP334 here at Amazon which is much better for me. I'll keep the original scraper as a back-up. To me, it sounds the same using either scraper but the LP has a better feel for playing.

This guira is one of the cheapest around but is amazing, the sound is brilliant, especially with a little bit of foam in there to deaden the overtones. The texture is awesome, the build quality is top notch. The handle feels comfortable, the weight is good, all up I'm extremely happy with it.The scraper, on the other hand, is not so good. The metal sticks fall out (like, in the middle of a song, for example, and nearly hit the singer in the head), and the wood feels like it will break if you get too excited while playing. I am going to glue it all back together properly (since half of the sticks have come out and won't stay back in) but I fear I may end up having to buy an LP one or get some kind of metal brush as a replacement.
