I have had a number of electric pressure cook brands over the years, and the Ninja Foodi pressure cookers with the air crisp lid is my favorite. First of all, to me, it doesn't make sense to buy a 6 quart pressure cooker since the quantity you cook is limited to the capacity of the cook. With an 8 quart pressure cooker, you can as easily cook smaller quantities as larger ones. I always opt for the larger size since cookers I have had in smaller sizes were never used.I also have had the Ninja OP301 pressure cooker with the air crisp lid for over two years. I use it almost every day and it still works and looks like new. I like it so much, when I saw the Ninja FD401 unit on sale during the Amazon Prime days, I jumped on it. I wanted an extra in case the one I have fails. From experience, I have learned this usually happens in the middle of making dinner.I have looked into the differences between the two units, and I'm not sure whether I prefer the OP301 unit to the DP401 unit. The OP301 is describes as a 9-in-one and the FD401 is described as a 12-in-1. The OP301 actually has 7 cooking functions to choose from and the FD401 has 8 functions to choose from. Some functions are combined to come up to the 9-in-1 for the OP301 and 12-in-1 for the FD401. The following is the differences between the two units.- Cooking functions - The FD401 added Yogurt to the Slow Cook function.OP301 - Pressure, Steam, Slow Cook, Sear/Sauté, Air Crisp, Bake/Roast, Broil, DehydrateFD401 - Pressure, Steam, Slow Cook/Yogurt, Sear/Sauté, Air Crisp, Bake/Roast, Broil, Dehydrate- Cooking function selection - The FD401 uses the Start/Stop knob to scroll through the functions for selection and to increase or decrease time and temperature. The OP301 has buttons that can be pressed for each function. Personally, I prefer the selection buttons on the OP301 to the dial used for selection on the FD401.- Time and Temperature - On both units there are default settings for both, but time and temperature can be easily changed on both by pressing the up/down buttons on the OP301 or using the dial on the FD401.- Accessories - Both come with the same accessories: reversible rack, cook/crisp basket, etc.I use my Ninja Foodi almost every day, and bought a couple accessories to increase the uses . Since I grow a number of veggie greens in my basement, I bought a steamer basket from Amazon for an 8 quart pressure cooker that I use to steam the veggies. The thicker leaves require 8-10 minutes of steaming, and the thinner leaves, like spinach, require only 2-3 minutes of steaming. I also bought the Ninja Foodi Skewer set that works wonderfully for cooking and browning BBQ'ed chicken wings, chicken thighs, and brochettes using chicken, fish, shrimp, or beef. The air crisping lid is used for the chicken wings and thighs after cooking them with the baking function. As a pressure cooker, this Ninja Foodi saves so much time, and the results are always wonderful. For example, a pork shoulder roast needs to be pressure cooked for only 55 minutes, and the liquids left make a wonderful gravy. To do this, put 2 cups of beef broth in the bottom of the cooking pot, add 1 large onion cut into wedges, 5-6 garlic cloves (or to taste), and seasonings. After the pork shoulder is done, remove it and cover with tin foil to keep warm. Set the cooker to sauté low, use in immersion blender to blend the onion and garlic, add a mixture of 1/4 cup water and 2 tbsp. corn starch, and cook until the gravy thickens. Using the pressure cooking function, I have also made pot roast with potatoes and carrots, corned beef and cabbage, short ribs, beef stew, and more. All have come out perfect, and all were done in 1 hour or less.In conclusion, both units supply basically the same cooking functions, and both are excellent cooking appliances with multiple cooking functions that will enhance the cooking abilities of anyone using them. Personally, I prefer the button selection of the OP302 over the FD401 unit simply because pushing a button for the desired function is much easier and faster than scrolling to the desired function with a dial.As for storage of the Air Crisp lid, there is an option available on Amazon to store this lid on top of the pressure cooker. I have this, and now store my Air Crisp lid on top of the pressure cooker.Another important point to mention is that many of the newer appliances use wattages from 1500 to 1800 watts. This unit is rated at 1760 units. We have a 40 year old home and most of the circuit breakers were 15 amps. This could handle 1 appliance if nothing else was running at the time of the appliance. I was having a problem with circuit breakers popping when using two appliances at the same time and sometimes when I was using only one. This made cooking dinners very frustrating as the cook times were lost when the breaker popped. We finally had an electrician come to the house to upgrade our circuit breakers to 20 amp and many of the outlets in my kitchen were wired to separate circuit breakers. This made dinner cooking a lot easier for me, but it came at a cost of over $3000. If you have only a couple of the newer appliances, including this one, you may have a problem if you have 15 amp circuits and anything else is running on the same circuit at the same time.I hope this review was helpful for you. I will update my review if my opinion changes or I can add more information.

When I first started using the foodie, I wanted to sell it, thinking I made an expensive mistake. The first few meals came out pretty rough, and were a pain to make. For some reason I had it in my head that it's a set and forget appliance, but it depends on the recipe.I decided to hold onto it a bit longer and try a few more recipes from the internet before giving up on it, and I'm glad I did. Just with anything new, using the foodie has a bit of a learning curve, nothing crazy, but once I had a few favorite recipes picked out and made a few times, using the foodie got easier, and meals were prepared much more quickly than when I first started using it.Long story short, I love this thing. Works great, super easy to clean. It's a beast, but super handy for whipping up quick meals for the kids when it's chicken nuggets and fries night.Other meals I made in this thing was a killer chillie verde, and a decent potato soup too. I have used it for broiling half loaves of cheesy garlic bread, reheating foods, and all sorts of stuff.Totally recommend this appliance.Try and score it while on sale though. Full price is a bit much imo.

Excelente producto.

This review is for the OP101 5qt model purchased from Amazon before Xmas. The assessment tookseveral months. After slogging through dozens of articles and descriptions of air fryers of different makes and designsand watching you tube videos, I decided on the Ninja Foodi. It appealed to me for several reasons.1. It combines oven and stove top functions (dry heat and wet heat) in a clever and compact design.2. It is round. Round cookers are easier to clean than those with corners such as air fryer ovens.3. Controls are simple and well laid out. The membrane buttons are easy to clean.4. It is designed with safety in mind. The unit has handles on the base and a lip on the attached lid thatare heat resistant. The burner/fan assembly is recessed enough that it would take some effort to getburned on it. The burner gets plenty hot but does not glow. The lower element is shielded by a largeswitch plate as on a slow cooker and the non-stick pot hides that when in use. The pot has a lip that canbe grabbed with mitts or potholders and a wide channel around the cooker collects and sendcondensation to a cup on the side of the cooker away from the electronics. The pressure cooker lid fitsin a specific way and there are clear instructions on purging the pressure and removing the lid. Thewhole unit is stable on the counter top and does not tip easily.5. It is ample. The compact model I have can make several servings of food and fit three or four 3”bowls. While it cannot do stacked cooking like the deeper models can, its wide area allows side-by-sidecooking. It certainly has enough room for me.I ordered one that was refurbished. I settled on the “entry level” model. It was the first time I boughtanything “used” from Amazon and it probably won’t be the last time. As a “used” model, I did notexpect it to be perfect and it wasn’t. It had its fair share of dents and dings and a sizable crack near thename plate but none of these imperfections seem to compromise its integrity. However, either duringshipment or when I manhandled the massive heavy box upstairs, the condensation cup was crushed andbroken in three places despite it being taped to the unit. If that piece had been put inside the pot it mighthave escaped damage. I glued it back together but this is a temporary repair and I will eventually haveto get another one. On the crisping lid, a single strut holds the burner/fan assembly but a set of emptybrackets indicate there were originally two. However it is holding the assembly quite well. The fan is abit noisy on startup—a bathroom fan becoming an airplane—but once the unit was warmed up and thefan reached its programmed rpm, it ran smoothly with minimal vibration. Other than these issues, thecooker was in great condition and very clean when I received it.Using itMultifunction cookers seemed to be designed for apartment kitchens as they can combine a number ofdifferent appliances in a limited space. This begs the question how well all the functions work in thereal world. My Foodi came with a small recipe book which I consider a rough guide. I found theguidelines for steaming, pressure cooking and crisping/roasting far more useful than the recipes.Air CrispingThe big selling point of the Foodi pressure cookers is that they can pressure cook meat to juicytenderness and then crisp up the skin for texture and deeper flavor. The concept works! I tried this inmy old Fagor Futuro before I got the Foodi with boneless pork ribs and my gas oven and the pork cameout delectable but I had to use both stove and oven. In the Foodi I used chicken thighs with fresh thymeand used the recipe for herbed chicken as a guide. They came out very tasty and everything wascontained in one cooker.Air fryingThe next thing I tried were frozen sweet potato and root vegetable fries. Here I learned there issomething of a learning curve to air frying. It is a balance of temp and time. Fortunately, Ninja makeschecking on the food very easy. Lift the lid; shake or toss the fries and place the lid down and thecooker will resume where it left off. Still I managed to burn a few. It takes practice.Next were chicken wings. I pressure crisped a batch and they tasted good but not as flavorful as thebatch I air roasted and this brings up another point. There is really little difference in the air crispingand roasting/baking functions in this model except maybe for temp range and fan speed. It is allconvection. I found myself using the roasting/baking function more than the air crisping especiallywhen cooking vegetables like sweet potatoes and carrots. I use the air crisp preset a lot for preheating.BakingI baked beer bread (from a flavored pre-proofed batter) directly in the nonstick inner pot and thekitchen not only filled with a wonderful aroma, the results were better than when I baked in the gasoven. The wide pot lends itself well to cakes and pies and will accommodate an 8” round pan. I havenot tried cookies because the cooking area may be too limited for that. However it might work forsmall batches.Pressure CookingI am no stranger to pressure cooking but this is the first time I have owned and used an electric pressurecooker. The valving is different from a stove top pot. The non removable valve is weighted and isprotected from starchy goop by a removable filter cap. This cap is easy to clean but also easy to lose soI am careful to keep it in sight while washing the lid. Like my Fagor, the lid has a removable siliconering to provide the seal. Operation is simple and straightforward. There is high and low. Duringcooking it seems the Foodi took longer to come to pressure than the stove top cooker but once thecount down timer appeared, it was fairly quick and quiet, venting only at the beginning of the cycle.Golden potatoes for mashing cooked quickly (under 15 minutes) as did cauliflower (0 minutes—thepressure building cycle was enough.) Rice and Farro were a little hit-or-miss. I may have not allowedenough time. Quinoa came out nearly perfect in the time window suggested by the guide. I got a dozenperfect hard boiled eggs in 4 minutes.SteamingSteaming in the Foodi is similar to pressure cooking except the valve is left open and consequently it isthe noisiest function—so loud it actually startled me when I started using it. It is for cooking delicatefoods that require only a short time such as cruciferous vegetables and fish. I cooked broccoli for 1minute. It came out vibrant green with a little crunch—another minute it would have been overcooked.Denser foods like potatoes needed a longer cooking time but they came out great. I have since acquireda glass lid and the steam function is a lot quieter now.Sear/SauteThis is the stove top function and like a stove, it has high, medium and low settings. It also does notrequire a lid. This function has proved to be really useful for me not only for what it was designed butfor helping with keeping the unit clean.Slow cook/yogurt.The slow cook function is simple; just high or low with time up to twelve hours. I cooked chili on thehigh setting at four hours and cooked pork stew at six hours on the low setting and both came out prettywell. The cooker also has a yogurt function. It came with a sheet for a vanilla yogurt recipe that seemedalmost like an afterthought. I tried my hand at making a small batch of plain yogurt using whole milkGreek yogurt as a starter and low fat milk as the base. I followed the clear instructions on the sheetprovided except that I used my glass lid instead of the pressure lid. I did my first batch at 8 hours andmy second at 9 hours. Yogurt making is a lengthy process and this was my first time, but Ninja hasmade it almost foolproof with that preset. The cooker lets me know what is happening and when to addthe starter on its display and it alerts with its distinctive beep. The 8 hour yogurt came out looking alittle like somewhat gritty creamy cottage cheese with a creamy slightly tart taste. I was impressed.Increasing the incubation time by one hour resulted in yogurt with fatter curds, more whey and asharper flavor closer to the Greek-style yogurt I prefer. Both batches had to be drained as condensationdripped into the pot when I lifted the lid. During the resting period in the refrigerator both thickened upand became smoother in texture. I can now look forward to creating my own keffer, Persian soup andsour cream substitute. It is a nice feature to have.CleaningEase of cleaning can often make or break a kitchen appliance. The Foodi has has its liner pot andcrisping basket coated with a nonstick ceramic layer as does the burner shield on the crisper lid. Thiscoating is thin and prone to scratching so it needs to be handled with some care and not have metalutensils on it. Generally the pots are easy to clean—they only need warm soapy water and a wipe. Theremovable trivet on the cooker basket sometimes requires some hard scrubbing as it can collect foodparticles in its grooves but because it is removable, it is fairly easy to wash. The large grooved switch plate covering the lower burner is prone to getting particles in its grooves butthoroughly washing and drying the liner pot before re-seating will prevent this problem. The crisping lid can be a challenge to clean but this is true for all convection cookers, particularly thosewith partially or fully exposed fixed elements. I have only one element to deal with versus the four orfive in a typical table top convection oven and I can see where I am scrubbing despite the somewhatawkward position of the lid. I don’t mind the lid being hinged. It makes it easy to “check the oven”.Still, it would have been more convenient if Ninja could design the unit so that the heat shield could beremoved and the burner and bowl accessed like on a stove. The convection fan probably makes thatimpossible. On my model, the heat shield is integrated into the lid itself. It cannot be removed withouttaking out a lot of screws and disturbing the finely balanced fan so I leave it alone. Fortunately theopenings around the shield are large enough to push an S.O.S. pad into the burner bowl. I scrub andwipe it with dish soap and water or a soap/water/vinegar spray. For tougher jobs, I use steam fromboiling water in the main pot. I found three areas that tend to collect grime: the strut, the area where theburner attaches and inside the exhaust vent. I use pressurized steam against those tough spots. Thepoint is to clean after each use and not let grime build up. An important note: I unplug before cleaning. Some other considerationsOne reason I chose the Foodi Compact is because I was not sure whether I would have enough physicaland electrical room for the taller models. It turns out that I do have room for the far more popular 6.5quart model so that might be a future upgrade. In conclusion, the Foodi is a versatile machine. It doeseverything pretty well but I see it as a supplement not a replacement for my gas range. It is most usefulfor those times when I do not want to heat up the kitchen with the oven, particularly during the warmmonths when I hardly use my range at all. It is a good companion to my microwave and inductioncooker and may eventually replace my toaster oven.

So easy to use, so versatile, I haven't used my stove or oven since getting this. Super easy to clean + making recipes that require both pressure cooking and air frying (think – a juicy roast chicken with a crispy skin) has =never been easier.I look forward to cooking meals now!Just a note: Recipe book that comes with it as absolute trash, especially the Mac and cheese recipe. You're better off finding YouTube channels/Facebook groups for recipes.
