Female, 5'3. I used this on meat but mostly to make crumbs from graham crackers, nuts, etc. Yes, & garlic. I oil it regularly & it looks great on my counter! Feels good in my hand, nice weight & heft for me.

I bought this mallet for relief carving.I was surprised how long the handle portion of this mallet is. Even in my big hands, I can comfortably hold the mallet at the rear of the handle for powerful blows, at the front of the handle for light blows, or the mallet head itself for tapping. It is also nicely balanced.Other than the exposed lathe turning marks on the ends, which don't affect it's function, it is nicely finished. Even the Narex brand is stamped into the wood, not just laid over the top. Nice touch.On the not so great side, the stickers (Narex and Amazon) were not easily removed without a heat gun and Goof Off.
