I'm a gear snob, to an extent. For my own use I often dismiss cheaper gear and jump straight to $800+ mics. However, I'm also not stupid and know people can't always afford that. I won't suggest cheaper gear unless I've tried it myself first. In all honesty, this is a very good sounding mic. It's got a boosted low and high end so it's bright (in a good way) without sounding thin or painful. And in all honesty that's what most people go for anyways. It's incredit easy to EQ as well. Sibilance is also handled well.In all honesty, the Revelation Mini FET and the Cr89 are probably some of the best condenser mics you can get for the price.

Jumped at the chance to review this mic. Bought an MXL R80 ribbon years ago and it’s a huge part of capturing my guitar sound (close mic the cab along with an SM57, blend in the DAW).With the MXL Rev Mini, I was looking more for something to capture vocals and acoustic guitar. And it’s great for both.On vocals, definite picks up the room but I found a good spot and double tracked some pop vocals and.. actually sounded decent. Which is to say the mic did a great job, because my singing voice is pretty bland! Handled everything I threw at it. My mic technique isn’t awesome but this seemed pretty forgiving and the built in shield works great.Switching to acoustic, it did a great job capturing but the weakness was in my placement. Slightly boomy but I realize I was pointing it more towards the sound hole than intended. Can’t wait to combine this with a SDC and track again. I’m also going to track some electric guitar with it, using the pads (very happy to have those). For something “mini” it’s actually pretty weighty and substantial feeling. Build quality is great, feels super solid. Includes a decent case, plus a shockmount that actually stays where you put it after adjusting (and spare elastic!).The whole package is great. I know MXL gets a rep for cheap n cheerful recording on a budget (probably thanks to the 990) but my experience with the R80 and now the Revolution Mini FET is that they can punch well above their price point.Easy 5 stars. It’s giving me the confidence to track my own vocals and finish some songs.

I've been using this MXL microphone for just over a week, and I have to say it is an impressive unit. The microphone is solidly made, with a rugged case and sturdy, tight XLR connection. There is a simple switch for tailoring the sensitivity to my needs. The sound quality is stunning for a mic in this price range. It is clean and smooth, with virtually no coloration from the mic - my voice and guitar recordings sound natural and un-enhanced, perfect raw material for digital music recordings. The mic captures crisp clear highs and satisfyingly deep, chocolatey lows effortlessly. It arrived in a rugged and very useful storage/travel case with a very passable shock mount as well. This mic moves to center position in my recording array!

I own five of the first generation MXL Revelation tube powered microphones, two are multi pattern and three are cardioid-only. They are some of the best sounding microphones I've ever had and that includes many from Neumann, Shure, AKG, Beyer and Sennheiser.Because I liked the tube Revelation models so well I ordered this FET model on the spot when I saw it. This mic does not disappoint. The Revelation FET model uses electronically balanced output instead of a transformer but it sounds really good. I wanted a mic that would run on phantom power rather than needing a big inline power supply. It appears to have the same cardioid capsule as the tube models.I'm a big fan of Warm Audio microphones, their WA47 and WA47-fet both sound great, this MXL is going to give Warm Audio a run for the money. The MXL Revelation FET has a wonderful natural sound quality, not sibilant or nasty in the highs at all. The low frequency reproduction is smooth and natural with rich proximity effect. This mic sounds BIG!The overall construction of this MXL microphone is excellent, their metal work is superb, the finish, plating and paint are all beautiful. The mic has a good solid feel in your hand.If there was something to fault on this microphone it would be the shock mount provided. It's a very inexpensive stamped steel thing, it works and included extra replacement suspension bands. I'm going to keep my eyes out for a higher quality replacement stand suspension mount. Meanwhile the stock one functions fine. The mic comes packed in a heavy duty but compact carrying case.Overall this mic is a keeper and a great value at this price.Good music to you!

Best purchase I’ve made all year! The sound is warm and full without sounding muffled or fuzzy. My vocal tracks now sound professional! I haven’t recorded any instruments using this microphone yet but I imagine with the dB intake adjuster knob you’re going to get some amazing sound from acoustic guitars and the like.
