Pages are a bit thin than I expected, good for writing with pencil.

I have to say that when I got this book I thought that it was a large sized unruled book, but it turned out to be a medium sized one. I can't complain though, because I will have a lot of fun just writing in this blank journal, especially when I use some fountain pens on the paper. What the other reviews say about the paper being thin is true. It is thin, but it isn't composition notebook thin. I plan on using some Pilot Varsity pens on the pages to see if there will be any feathering, bleed through, or ghosting.

This is a very versatile and interesting little notebook. I keep it on my desk to do spontaneous artwork in. I have used pens, colored pencils, markers, acrylic paint, gouache and watercolor all to good effect. The paper is thin, very smooth and strangely strong at the same time. Yes, it did crinkle when I put too much water on it but not too badly as it flattened back up. It did excellently with gouache and acrylic paint. I even used oil pastels! If you want an inexpensive notebook that you won't feel precious about using, get this one and put it on your desk or carry it around to capture any artistic ideas that pop into your head.

Such a nice notebook! I was kinda sad that the top part of the book was kinda destroyed but otherwise its pretty nice.

If you need a notebook that can hold an impossibly huge amount of writing in a light, compact package, you need to try one of these MUJIs. They are the Tardis of notebooks: bigger on the inside than on the outside. They have twice the number of pages of a comparable Moleskine or Leuchtturm1917 notebook and yet, because of the lightweight covers, they weight much less. And, as other reviewers have noted, the covers are certainly light weight--heavier than typical notebook paper but much lighter than typical cover stock. If you throw your notebooks in a bag with your work boots and a Pabst, you will need to find or make a more protective cover, or at least buy one of those big notebook rubber bands (I think JetPens sells them). The paper is extremely smooth and thin but durable. It is a little more translucent than typical notebook paper. It's comparable to the paper in a Hobonichi planner or a Leuchtturm1917 unruled notebook. I prefer plain (unruled) notebooks like these MUJI's because I can't find sufficiently narrow ruled paper. In fact, I use the grid guide from an old Leuchtturm1917 plain notebook as a writing guide in my MUJI. In fact, I scanned and shrank it so I can cram even more writing in.The only notebook I've encountered that is comparable is the Seven Seas journal from Nanami Paper. The Seven Seas is definitely better constructed, is made with actual Tomoe River paper (a cult paper for good reason), and comes with extras, like a nice selection of reusable covers, and blotting paper for you fountain pen users. They are more expensive, and are worth it. I'm working my way through a couple of Seven Seas notebooks and will certainly buy more. But I will also be buying more of these MUJIs, because they are such an outstanding value.
