Bought these for my students who break pencils all the time. These came pre-broken. Ha. I was disappointed for sure and they are going back. The twist action doesn’t work. The colored pencil “lead” just falls out which makes usage impossible. The “lead” parts were also in pieces. I love Mr. Sketch markers, as do my students, so I thought these would be a fun addition. Sadly, they are being returned.

I am so disappointed in these colored pencils. As a former elementary teacher, I was so excited see Mr. Sketch colored pencils since the markers are amazing, but actually, these pencils were unusable. I bought these as a gift for my niece, but every time she tried to draw with them, the lead broke or it wouldn't stay pushed up. Some of the pencils were even broken when she got them out of the box before even using them. So sad!

They break constantly IF you can keep the lead from slipping completely out. The first one I tried I couldn't write light enough to both see what we were writing AND have it not break off. I tried the other ones and most were surprisingly worse! Lead slipping out with no grip. I thought about even trying to tape the end or something crazy....they smell good though really really faint. But trying to fix it is insane; that's something I might do for a $1 set, not for what I paid. So sad because many reviews have said the same thing and I questioned it......Mr Sketch IS SKETCH and should be fixing this product.

I got these for my 3 year old. She likes drawing and writing and wants to use the markers because they are more grown up. I do not want her 20 month old brother to use markers, so I thought colored pencils might fit the bill.These are twist (not sharpen) style pencils. That means they will run out faster, but also means that the three year old will not bug me to sharpen them. They are more the consistency of grease pencils than traditional colored pencils. But for a three year old that is better. There is a darker mark (and a bit wider) than a traditional light mark of a colored pencil.I am not a particular fan of scented things, but these are not bad smelling and the scent is not super strong.One other negative to note. These are not refillable. My 21 month old was rough in his drawing and broke one of the leads and that meant that half of the blue was gone in 2 seconds. That doesn't really change my opinion of them, but it is worth noting.
