I was recently gifted an older monitor by a cousin who was looking to throw it away. I did not have an additional VGA or DVI port on my video card but I do have an HDMI out. Using this port I am able to convert the HDMI cable to a DVI plug for the monitor I received. This was the cheapest/easiest way to connect the monitor to my computer. The device works great and the monitor works great as well.

There's not much to say about this adapter, it does it's job and it does it well. The build quality is good, it is made with nice gold plated metal and solid, heavy rubber. My adapter actually arrived with two big plastic hand screws in place of the small metal ones pictured here. This was a big plus because they are much easier to use than the stiff metal ones these DVI connectors usually come with. I would definitely recommend this adapter for the price.

So, my laptop puts out HDMI and my monitor takes either VGA or DVI...So of course, the dillema. I wanted to maintain the quality of HDMI so I knew I wanted to keep that as my output. My choice then was to either:Laptop with HDMI (F) -> (M) HDMI cable (M) -> (F) HDMI to DVI adapter(M) -> Monitor with (F) DVILaptop with HDMI (F) -> (M) HDMI to DVI adapter (F) -> (M) DVI Cable (M) -> Monitor with (F) DVII went with the first one (this product) for the following reasons: I didnt want an adapter hanging off my laptop, potentially damaging my laptop or the adapter, and secondly, I tend to have more HDMI cables lying around as they are much more popular. On a side note, I use an AmazonBasic HDMI cable with this, and it does a good job.Anyways this product did what I needed and did it well.
