Really loud with less effort than the standard whistle. Love the design because the sound pushes away from you so its not hard on your ears.

I’m an experienced volleyball official with years of experience in high school, club, and college. I used the Fox 40 standard for years, and I keep a couple in my bag, particularly the Pearl, if I need a different tone to stand out at large tournaments. However, I got a white Molten whistle (I’m pretty sure it was packaged or sold as a Molten tri-tone whistle, at the time) a few years back, and I immediately loved it. I wear glasses, so the air, sound, condensation, and sometimes spit are directed down and away from your face, instead of up and out, where stuff can get on your glasses. Also, I wear ear plugs at all times as R1, and directing the sound down and away means far less of it is directed at my ears, and far more of it is directed toward players and coaches. I have very little trouble being heard.I’ve had a hard time finding this whistle in black, until now, so I couldn’t use it for my high school matches. Now, I’m ready for any match (where I can use a regular whistle).

The whistle is unique, but not noticeably different in performance. Definitely not a must have.It arrived within the timeframe, and was was described.A major disappointment for me, is the cheap, low quality, so called lanyard that comes with it...better to use a boot lace.I'm glad l got it at a reduce add-on price; l won't feel so bad as it may be at the lower end of my use scale.

*My favorite whistle. Please see all my reviews of all the whistles I have. Here is the updated summary I have moved it from 4th place to 2nd:*I purchased this whistle because I wanted something different. I have been using the Fox 40 brand whistles for quite some time and found them to be prevalent on the soccer field. I am a referee, and in order to have a distinct sounding whistle on the field I purchased this to find a more distinct sounding whistle. By the way, I already own Fox 40 Classic, Pearl and Sonic Blast and some others. I like the sound that this whistle creates, it's not high pitched as the Classic and you can easily control the tone by blocking off one of the chambers with another finger. The construction of this whistle is quite good and sturdy and it's very comfortable to hold once you get used to the unique shape. I used to prefer a finger-grip style whistle but I have changed my tune once I got this whistle. Now I have this whistle along with a Fox 40 pearl attached on the opposite sides of a lanyard bundled together to form a comfortable grip.In my opinion this is how I would rate these whistles. Mind you this is a subjective rating based on my personal observation on the pitch.1. Fox 40 Sonic Blast - extremely loud with good sound quality. Great for outdoor, too loud for indoor.2. Molten Deluxe Pea-less Whistle - very loud with decent (unique) sound quality. Good for both indoor and outdoor games.3. Fox 40 Pearl - Not very loud but has a deeper sound than other whistles that I have used other than Caul. Great for Indoor, will do on a small field outdoor.4. Acme Tornado - Quite loud and with good sound but the fingergrip mechanism is crap. Good overall for both indoor and outdoor.5. Fox 40 Classic - As loud as Acme Tornado, but with a much higher pitch. (Too many referees use this whistle on the pitch, indoor and outdoor, but it is quite a good whistle.)6. Mikasa WH-5 - Not very loud with a cheap sound quality. It might work for volleyball but it does not work for soccer.7. Fox 40 Caul - As loud as the Pear but with a deeper tone. (It sounds loud to me, but from personal experience it is not heard easily on the field. I wrote a review of this whistle on Amazon.) Not recommended.
