The laptop came with Windows warning across the screen in red possibly indicating a security issue in the BIOS settings. The packaging was minimal and did not include a phone number for the seller. Disappointing.

My first refurbished Surface Pro 5 arrived with some damage to the backlight and a scratch in the screen. (Packaging was not damaged, and it came with a QA slip, but it was decidedly nowhere near "excellent" condition as such.) Thankfully I requested a replacement, and it's absolutely brilliant.The stock operating system (Windows 10) runs pretty well, though it will soon reach end-of-life. I decided to install Zorin OS instead, which, after downloading patches to support the Surface hardware, comes pretty close to parity with Windows 10. I don't have the Windows Hello facial recognition (drivers don't seem to exist for the IR emitters in Linux to support Howdy), and I haven't had any luck yet with the camera. But type cover support, touch screen, pen, and all the other trimmings seem to be absolutely spot on. The replacement model I received was top-notch and excellent as described.Is it going to game? Not so much. Is it going to keep up with the latest AI fads? No. Can you upgrade the hardware? Unfortunately, the Surface Pro 5 has both RAM and storage soldered on, so your storage expansion option is a microSD card. If you're good with this, and you don't need a lot of "grunt"--just portability, battery life, and a good screen--this is a very reasonable deal. I'm happy.
