This unit is working great for my intended purpose (measuring shade on hiking trails). I have connected its voltage output to an analog data recorder so I can view the time-varying light intensity levels on my laptop. The unit has been working great for several weekends of hiking, and does correctly identify shade/sun conditions. My only problem is that the switches are not recessed, so the unit got jostled in my backpack and went into a mode where the data resolution became inadequate for my needs, however I bought a switch cover to fix that issue.

Measures within 0% to 2% of our $1500 Minolta depending upon where on the brightness curve you are, and frankly I don't know which meter is the more accurate. For our purposes this unit is plenty close enough, and for a fraction of the price of the Minolta. Can't beat it.

The Extech 401025 was very easy to use right out of the box. It seems to be very accurate so far. I gave it four stars because I believe the light meter should come with a carrying case like most other scientific equipment would.

Love is a strong word, but I more than "like" this little meter, so "love it" it is. I chose this meter for my business to measure ambient light in rooms used to test people's eyes. It is extremely accurate, as I periodically test it against another digital meter and a manual needle meter used in photography. Everything is great about the product except that I have to manually calculate the reading I need because of my specific industry. Only units that are twice the price or more provide the specific calculation I need with the flip of a switch. But I have one such unit, and everytime I compare the readings of both machines, they are dead-on with each other. A little inconvenient, but worth it to me since this unit was about $300 less than my other light meter.
