The dual HDMI output worked fine. However, no matter what I tried, it did not extract any audio whatsoever.

I didn't notice any quality loss when using this to transfer audio to my sound bar from my Chromecast. I also have it going to the wireless headphones I use when I don't want to bother others with TV noise. Very happy with it.

The optical and 3.5mm audio outputs are primarily why I got this HDMI DA (distribution amplifier). The ability to mirror an HDMI input and have 2 audio outputs for different devices makes this unit extremely useful for AV distribution. Definitely a device to have on hand when it's needed.

The audio extractor ability was what caused me to acquire this device. I had used other audio extractors when working as an AV installer and wanted to have one on hand. I'll have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of the ability to downscale to either or both of the HDMI splitter outputs. But upon testing, it did exactly that. As claimed, I was able pass through a 2160p HDR input to one output and downscale to 1080p on the other. I tested all the output configurations that my Roku Ultra supported. The device was able to pass through and downscale both 60 fps and 30 fps and with and without HDR. Of course it would also pass through 1080p and 720p. It did not upscale the 720p. I also tested it in a PC setting with a 2560x1440 monitor. It would pass that through but would not downscale that resolution - not surprising but I though I should mention it. I have only tested the analog audio output, but assume the optical would work as well. Something I wanted to test but do not have an appropriate monitor is the ability to extract audio when the HDMI output is connected to a DVI monitor that would not have audio capability. Unless the device modifies the EDID information from the monitor to include audio, that might not work. I will edit this review later if I have an opportunity to test that.
