This device is awesome. Worked right away, no drivers etc. I had 3 of these units working all at once in OBS. Just make sure you're using a decent video card on OBS.

I purchased this for use in live webcast production of hockey games. We use a MacBook Pro with two BlackMagic Design Ultra Studio Mini Recorders connected to the computer's Thunderbolt ports to bring in SDI signals from two cameras. We use the Magewell USB Capture SDI USB 3.0 device to bring a third camera into the computer via one of its USB ports (the computer's other USB port is used to send the stream out via Ethernet.) The Magewell device is connected to the computer via a powered USB 3.0 hub that also connects a 24-channel external audio mixer. No issues with either the Magewell or the computer with this setup. The Magewell device is much smaller than the BMD devices (although they're pretty small as well) and unlike the BMD devices, it doesn't seem to get hot during use. The Magewell device is plug and play as advertised. No software to load, no setup apart from choosing it as a source in your switching application (we use Wirecast.) Since we use the Magewell device to produce live hockey games the device has to work without issue for 3 to 3.5 hours to capture the pre-game show, game, and post game interviews. The Magewell works flawlessly no matter how long we have it connected. We also have the HDMI version of the Magewell capture device. It served us well for two years until we switched to an all-SDI production. One note: You have to connect your standard SDI-BNC cable to the Magewell SDI USB 3.0 via a small adapter cable that comes with the device. The interface between the adapter cable and device is pretty small and I'm not sure how well it will hold up. Time will tell.

I have a client that wanted to display the HD output of a medical microscope during a videoconference via a service such as Go to Meeting. The microscope's video panel has an SDI output that I needed to get into USB on my Macbook Pro. I bought the device, however the videoconference was canceled. I did test the Magewell with a camcorder's SDI out and it worked right away: no drivers to install, no software necessary. I tested it with Go to Meeting and was able to transmit the camera's HD SDI output with no problems. I was also able to capture full 1920x1080 video using QuickTime 7. A similar videoconference may be in the works in the future so I'm keeping the Magewell.
