I now have 2 sets by this company and couldn't reccomned them more! They blend beautifully and are so much nicer to use than normal coloured pencils

I cannot love these pencils enough! I have three other tins from Black Widow and simply get so much joy from using them! Lovely colors- great names - fantastic coverage.

The Black Widow brand (in 2022) is composed only of soft wax pencils. It has a total of 180 colors divided into the seven sets. The latest set is the Dragon which stresses darker & more vibrant colors. The Monarchs stressed pastels. The first five sets have a short color dip while the last two have a longer color dip. Do not confuse soft wax cores with the soft oil cores found in so many of the cheaper but popular Chinese pencils. Oil and wax are very different cores. Wax is the easiest to learn. Just pick up & apply to paper. Don’t expect the two pencils to act the same. One is transparent & the other is opaque so different techniques work for the different pencils (don’t claim your Chinese oil pencil is just like a wax Prismacolor because, of course, they are not). You don’t need to burnish wax pencils as you do oil. No need to lay down layer after light layer of oil pencil: wax is opaque so you color quickly. Wax is easy on aching hand joints too because the cores are not hard. I’m just learning oil pencil now but wax is my favorite of the two & of the two wax brands I own, Black Widow is my favorite. The cores do not break like Prismacolor Premiers do. They are soft but not too soft.I love the Dragons. This is a great set for colorists who do a lot of landscapes. It has six medium to dark greens plus a few blue green. Also four browns, a gold (called cardboard), some berrylicious deep reds & a few unusual blue shades filled out with yellows, oranges, pinks etc. A bit of something for everyone. It’s a great companion to the Monarch set & the two will give you most of what you need to get started in coloring. Once you know your way around the wax pencils, then you can try the oil and watercolors. Ink pencils (Inktense) are my next type to try. You can’t go wrong with Black Widow!

This set makes a great ADDITION to any Black Widow collection. It is an OK set to start with but not the best if you don't already have other Black Widow pencils. If new to Black Widow, I would recommend to at least start with the base Black Widow set (1000 BW) first. This set does contain a beautiful blend of colors although it is somewhat unbalanced.Great quality as I have come to expect from this brand and pricing is very cheap compared to similar sized sets from similar quality brands. This said, If you are looking at getting the full Black Widows collection, It becomes a bit more expensive than other brands which significantly lower the price per pencil when you buy the large collections. However, since none of the Black Widow sets repeat colors, you can just buy a set at a time and slowly grow your collection which is something you can not generally do with other brands.If you use up some of the pencils and you want to replace them (or if you just want certain pencils from a set), you can get them open stock but you have to contact the brand directly and order them through email (address listed on the tins the pencils come in) as the open stock pencils are not available in any digital storefront.The biggest issue I have with this set is the limited availability at this point in time but it just released and there is a lot of excitement and demand for it.

Love all my Black Widow pencils. They were my first set of wax pencils I invested in and I’ve never regretted my purchase. Hence why i snapped up the Dragon set so quickly! An awesome addition to complete my set. The colours are always impressive and blend so seamlessly. I find them to be of exceptional quality
