The attraction for Kwikset's SmartKey is that one does not need to visit a locksmith to re-key to match the other locks in the house. I've purchased several SmartKey locksets and so far am satisfied with them all. For all of them, it was a matter of taking out the old lockset and slipping the Kwikset lockset into the same holes in the door and putting the strike plate on the jamb. So far they all have had longer screws for the jamb than what the builder put in back when the house was built. The kit even included a long specialty hex key for removing/reinstalling the inside handle.The only downside for this particular lockset (levers on both sides, key on one side, 1/4 turn "button" on the other) is that I could find it only in a style similar to other two lever sets in the house but not an exact match.

The smart key feature worked like a charm. I was about to rekey it to a dofferent key in about 3 seconds.The only thing I didn't like was that three lock ended up upside down on my door, I'm not sure if I could have some anything differently to get it the right way. Still looks great and works great, and the Smart Key was really as easy as advertised (I literally did what the sign at the hardware store said to do 1. Insert key, 1/4 turn clockwise. 2. Insert and remove rekey pin. 3. Insert new key and turn 1/2 turn counter clockwise.)
