When actively fishing, having this on my belt is essential. Grips great and cutter slices through braided line like butter. However, the holster rotates and dumps pliers out. Poor holster design. It would be perfect without swiveling holster.

Beginner Kayak fisherman always ask what should I buy first for my new kayaking adventures.1. Buy a really good and comfortable life jacket. One you will wear for those 14 hour days on the water. Winter fishing they keep you warmer and help insulate but in the summer not so much but will give you a fighting chance if something bad happens. Buy a good one.2. A good paddle and a backup "skulling paddle". Either make one or buy one off here. Basically a hand paddle to keep with you because you will at some point knock off you paddle that you forgot to leash. you can paddle a kayak with a hand paddle.3. Buy you a decent fishing rod and reel. Don't have to be the most expensive because a decent reel will still land a fish. A decent rod will still land a fish. An ultra cheap rod and reel might land a decent fish but also may cost you the fish of a lifetime. I don't buy top of line stuff anymore because I have lost more rods and reels in the lakes and rivers than I care to admit. But I still buy good quality that I know will help me catch fish not hurt me.4. A good set of pliers and a knife. You can remove an embedded hook, cut line, remove hook from fish, make a peanut butter sandwich , cut bait or most of all cut anything in case of an emergency if you get in a sketchy situation.5. Buy a good kayak. Don't go to a big box store to buy a kayak. If you like kayaking you will want to upgrade the next season anyway so spend a few hundred more and one from a shop that will let you demo it first. A box store kayak won't be worth much when you sell but a good quality kayak will hold it's value.

The Cutthroat Straight Pliers are well make and thought went into their design. They are lightweight and have a nice grippy handle. The needle nose plier end works great for removing small hooks in Kokanee and trout. I really like the line cutter that stands alone on the pliers. It is very easy to cut leaders and excess line on knots and loops. I like the hole in the jaw where you can run a hook through and use the pliers to cinch down on a knot you tied onto the hook to make a leader. The plier storage case clips onto your belt and the pliers have a safety cord you can clip onto a belt loop. The only thing I did not like on the belt plier case was that it rotated on the belt loop attachment and when you went to put the pliers back into the case after use it may have spun sideways or upside down and you would have to rotate the case right side up to get the pliers back into it. I would certainly buy the pliers again.

I have always just used regular needle nose pliers for years. They rust and I just get a new pair from the hardware store. I seen these on Amazon and all the good ratings. So I decided to get a pair. I have been surf fishing 3 days in a row and can say from just this little time using them that they are perfect. I absolutely love the belt clip that you can take it on and off so easily if your going to wade in the water. Not that you can't take them with you, just gives you options. If you take them wading in the waves and by some freak chance they pop out... they have a tether and a clip. So you will never loose them. I clip it on my kayak seat when I'm in the kayak fishing. Even if it turns over, I won't loose them. They have easily cut all mono up to 80lb and braid up to 60, that's the heaviest I ever need. Probably could go higher. I think these will last a long time. Will give a long term review after a few months.

Aluminum is nice but I have broken several pairs. Titanium is awesome but I couldn't use them after spending 300-900 for a pair. I had others that were "stainless" but they fail and were heavy. The KastKing stainless pliers are just perfect. Strong, deceptively light-weight, and the cutters are top notch. I can cut the finest braid, the heaviest mono and even some steel wire. I feel the jaws could open a little further for larger saltwater tackle but these are my new freshwater pliers that will be with me for all but the heaviest saltwater fishing. The grips are comfortable with great traction and the jaws are positive and well aligned. Greatest pliers I ever purchased. Incidentally, I was compensated to provide this review; I never wrote a review on Amazon before. Thus, the motivation for writing one at all. This is however, my honest opinion.
