This is the second time I've bought these. Right out of the box you can tell the quality. They are packed in soft, thick foam. The gorillas in that old Samsonite commercial could handle the box and they would still all arrive in one piece. They come with cute little peel and stick labels that I could have used, but I like to decorate things, so I painted them. But the labels are great. There is a huge selection of herbs and spices, some of which I've never even tried, and I cook Indian food. These jars are sturdy and the gaskets hold up over time. The ones I just got seem to be in the same condition as the ones I've had for over a year. Each one holds just about a full container of spice, depending on what it is. They hold a full container of some of them and not quite a full container of others. I think if I tapped and packed them down, I could get the rest of the container in. I love Love LOVE these. I'm never using anything else for my spices.

They were pricier than I would have liked, but I really like them! I wanted something I would be happy to see and use when I open my spice drawer, and I am not disappointed. The packaging was really snug and thickly padded, I think the delivery company would have had to be playing full-contact sports with the box to break any. There were also a LOT of stickers that came with, so I found everything I needed and then some.

Recently when cooking, I noticed that it took me almost 20 minutes to find all the spices I needed. I skipped one that could not be found. (It was later found on the stove!). For those of us who take cooking seriously, having the proper spices on hand is critical. It is also important to me that spices be of the highest quality, organic as much as possible and fresh.I decided to start the research on beginning a spice database, to catalog, index and store my spices in a logical yet convenient manner. Most of us have spices in the cabinet that are older than most marriages. While not always bad, many herbs, spices, and peppers have volatile oils that are diminished with age. The first order of business is to keep them fresh. While many spices in the past were packaged in metal or glass containers, that is not true as much anymore. A spice may be perfectly shelf-stable for several years, but left to the air and contamination can render its flavor dull and lifeless. Knowing that I will most likely keep some spices longer than I should, they need to be stored in glass containers with an airtight seal. That is doubly important here in the south with the heat and humidity. (That has taught me a lot on storing any dry food products). The next step was to find suitable containers that hold enough for several uses, while not so much that it takes up too much room. I knew they needed to be glass and the glass needed to be square as round containers take up too much room and tend to turn in the cabinet so you are always turning the spice bottle around so you can see what it is. After that, for it to be adequate for my spice collection, there needed to be enough in the set. I found these packaged 30 per unit to be a good number.I took the plunge, ordered the spice jars and they arrived. They were very well packaged in a well-designed shipping box with a compartment for each jar and adequate padding all around. My shipment arrived intact. Also included were some labels. I didn’t like the labels, too few of the spices I use and too much work to hand label. The jars themselves are common glass so care should be taken in handling. They are not especially thick, none of them broke when I hand washed them. The metal securing bands do not appear to be dishwasher safe. Cleaning them is a real pain. They must be dry before any product is put in them so figure an overnight project cleaning them. Finally, the time arrived to clean out the spice cabinet. Mine is small but I love the fact that it is in a cabinet right above my stove. This took hours. After removing the spices, I set all of the spice jars on the counter next to them. Now here is where your organizational skills will come in, or turn this into a disaster. Decide how you want to label them. After more than 5 hours over 3 days of work and contemplation. I chose to use my Brother PT2430PC label printer. This is a low-cost unit that plugs into a PC or laptop and has a simple editor in it. I suggest you get a piece of paper, copy down 10 spices you have at a time. We are not in a rush here and want it done right, take your time, take a break from the project and do it right. Go to the computer and make the labels. Now, one by one, pour your spices from their packaging containers into the jars. I have found that these spice jars hold just about the equivalent of a typical, small retail spice container. I didn’t use the funnels, just carefully poured the spices into the jars (keeping my Dustbuster handy).I repeated the process until, to my surprise, all the jars were used and I still had 10 or 15 more spices leftover. I ordered another set. Being totally out of control at this point, I decided to go onto Amazon and order another 10 more obscure spices that while generally not used often, should be in my cabinet. As you can see from the photos, the spices in my cabinet are not organized by any standard. So I went and copied down the name of every jar and went back to my trusty computer and created a list of all my spices, then alphabetized them. To save time, I decided to wait until my second set of jars arrive along with my additional spices until rearranging all my spices in the cabinet alphabetically by name.I would rate these jars a good value. Good quality and an overall well-designed product with a few caveats. The labels provided should simply be blank and Avery compatible so they could be put into a printer and individually printed. It appears to be a good balance of material quality and price. While I don’t feel these are a bargain, they are a good value. When you take everything together, the product fires on all cylinders. Good quality, good packaging, good concept. I can’t find anything ‘wrong’ about the product. I highly recommend them for spice management. Here is a list of my current inventory:AllspiceBasil SweetCardamomCayenneCelery SeedChili PowderChipotleCinnamonCinnamon VietnameseClovesCloves GroundCoriander GroundCoriander WholeCream of TartarCumin GroundCumin WholeCurry SweetDill SeedGarlic PowderGingerMarjoramMustard DryNutmegNutmeg WholeOnion PowderOreganoPaprikaPaprika SmokedPepper BlackPepper RedRosemarySage GroundSesame SeedsTarragonThymeMy list for additional spices is:Fennel, Ground Fennel, Parsley, Anise, Peppercorns, Caraway Seed, Saffron, Star Anise, Tumeric, Bay Leaves, File Powder, Lavender, Dill Weed.As you can see most serious cooks are going to need 2 packages of these. A few extras can replace any that get broken along the way. You are looking at a pretty major project, but when you are done, you will be very happy! I imagine these could be used for other things but they seem to be made for spices.
