These stir bars work fairly well with my stir plate. The assorted sizes are great for uses ranging from test tubes to medium size glassware. I was able to successfully create a vortex in a 4 cup measuring cup using the large stir bar. The included case make storage convenient with the foam cutout housings. The only issue I found with these stir bars is their shape. They are almost flat instead of using a slight ridge in the center as seen in some stir bars. This results in a higher power needed to initiate a vortex. The bar will sometimes stall at startup until the stir plate is set to a higher power. This issue does not occur in stir bars with a ridged center. However, these stir bars are still useful and a great value at nine bars for less than $10.

This magnetic stir bar set comes in a nice little plastic storage case with a foam insert in it that has a specific spot cut out for each bar. Being that these stir bars are all pretty small, this makes it really handy to be able keep all of these stir bars stored in one place. What’s nice about this assortment is that you have a small bar that can be used in a test tube or small beaker or flask all the way up to larger bars for a larger beaker, flask, etc. Also, if you’re not sure what size stir bar to use, now you have an assortment to experiment with.I should have paid more attention when I ordered these because I didn’t notice that these didn’t have the pivot ring in the middle of the bars. That ring helps to decrease drag on the stir bar when it’s in use as well as preventing wear and reducing vibrations from contact with the container. These still worked pretty well though so, no big deal I guess. Although these are working really well at the moment, I don’t know how well they will hold up over time when being used with an array of chemicals or heat settings. These do have the PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coating though and I imagine that these should then be pretty durable and resistant to damage from chemicals. I really like this set and the only thing I feel is missing is I wish they would have included a straight retriever PTFE coated magnet.

This is a great selection of PTFE stirbars, but there is no documentation, packaging, or stamps to specify the material. Therefore, one must simply take their word for it or perform testing to ensure they are truly PTFE and will perform as expected without ruining important experiments. Additionally, the stir bars were dirty and covered in debris from the included foam insert.I would only use these for low stakes/low importance experiments. For peace of mind, next time I will get something with the appropriate documentation.

These are great, the multiple sizes is also great. Some self stirring cups have a removable base so that you can use the self stirring feature with other cups not made for self stirring functions. Thats the scenario is where the magnetic capsules tend to get lost. Since they stick to anything ferrous, they could end up anywhere.Without these capsules, the cups are just a cup, so having spare mixing capsules is a good thing to have.
