Why didn't they always make pipe wrenches out of aluminum, makes a huge difference in weight. These are heavy duty and I no longer see a need to keep my super heavy cast iron set.

Okay, we get the alloy is light and strong but those jaws! The grabbing teeth were honed by a samurai katana maker. The things are sharp! The set is nice for clearance under sinks or tight spaces. I slipped a pipe extension (cheater bar) over the 18" and abused it applying crazy torque. The wrench held up fine but the aluminum pipe fitting failed - under massive stress. Serious twisting to be had. Would recommend for sure a quality product.

I ordered the HURRICANE 3-Piece Aluminum Pipe Wrench Set,10", 14", 18", Heavy Duty Adjustable Plumbing wrench set through the VINE program. The lightweight alloy used makes them considerably lighter than conventional pipe wrenches. I noticed how much play there is in the adjustment nut. All three wrenches have the same play; there is a lot of space (compared to my conventional pipe wrench) between the nut and the housing. The play in the adjustment nut makes it a little challenging to adjust the opening. With the limited use I have given the wrenches, I have found them adequate for DIY and home projects. The handle is comfortable, and the grooves in the teeth are strong and grip well. My only concern is using them in a more heavy-duty capacity, as I do not need to use them in that manner.

This set is great to have on the boat, where we're always hunting down the single pipe wrench which gets called for breaking free rusty pipes and nuts by different people, and finding it for the next guy or project consumes time. The steel jaws bite well into rusty pipes, and the adjustment collar spins smoothly to adjust the size as expected. I will say that the sliding jaw on the larger size fits looser than others I've used, but it still works ok for traditional wrenching. It only becomes an issue when using the pipe wrench in odd sideways torquing situations. The aluminum construction is much lighter than steel, and I didn't think the pipe wrenches could be in the Amazon box by its weight. These wrenches are a little shorter than I was expecting, but they're as described, 10", 14", and 18" in length. They say 'Heavy Duty', and they'll surely be tested. The handle is slim enough to slide an extension pipe on, and there's a hole in the end for hanging or attaching a line or come-along. So far they've not shown any sign of weakness, and function just as well as rigid wrenches at a fraction of the price.Shipping was pretty quick, so I'd recommend this set as a bargain alternative if you can plan ahead and wait a few days rather than run to the hardware store.

Light weight as in easy to handle.
