I'm comparing this camera to a few other logitech ones that I have owned. Initial setup was smooth and it is easy to mount on my monitor. It seems well built and the overall aesthetic is nice. The image qaulity let me down a bit. With HDR turned off then the quality suffers as expected. However, if I turn it on, then the framerate suffers. I did a test Zoom call with a colleague and it was always a compromise between framerate and quality when playing around with the settings.

The instructions say to install the HP Accessory Center from the Mac app store, but the app doesn't detect cameras. So I went to the HP support page for the product and it only offers Windows downloads. It isn't the end of the world since it does support plug and play functionality on the Mac, but I can't access any of the promised field of view adjustments or tweak any of its settings.Using OBS I was able to crop the video to simulate a FOV change and when inputing it at 4k it still looks great even "zoomed" in. In a well lit room I do think it's a bit contrasty and doesn't look much better than my existing 2k webcam, but in low light... WOW, the colors, skin tones, and details look fantastic even when just illuminated by just my screens. Compared to any other webcam I've used, it is amazing without any weird color patchiness or distracting digital noise. I really wish they included Mac software so I wouldn't have to jump through hoops feeding it through a virtual camera software. And this is the main reason I'm docking a star. There are some of there are some smaller nit picks I have with it... The magnetic privacy cover does not have a home when the camera is in use, so it's too easy to lose. Also, while the silver finish matches my Mac Studio perfectly, there is still a lot of white plastic which slightly cheapens the look. But the video is great and I do like that the included USB A to C cable is nice a long and matches the overall color scheme.Overall, if you're looking for something you can use with just monitor glow and or gaming lights this is a very strong contender. If you are using a Mac however, you may want to consider something that has full software support. Hopefully they'll add software support for it in the future.

I’m doing a lot of video calls and my OG (ancient) Logitech C920 is starting to glitch. So it’s time for a new camera. I’m not particularly interested in seeing myself at a microscopic detail of resolution, but moving up to a 2K or 4K image quality made sense. So when I came across the new HP 960 4K Streaming Webcam, I thought I’d give it a try.The 960 comes in a silver and white finish; the “business” model 965 comes in all black, but from the specs, it appears that they have the same internals:- 4K 30 fps or 1080p 60 fps recording- Sony Starvis CMOS 8MP sensor-18mm F2.0 lens-adjustable Field of View (FOV) of 78°, 90° and 100°-dual side microphones with noise reduction-90° downward tilting body-360° horizontal rotation-magnetic front lens Privacy shieldSo with those specifications in mind, I was excited to have the webcam show up!Once it arrived, it looked good; the packaging is protective and easy to recycle, and the webcam has a very nice finish and look to it.-nice finish and presentation: this looks very sleek and modern, and it comes across as very well engineered.-rotation and downwards tilt works fine and is smooth and well balanced.-the privacy cap is magnetic. Neat!-there is a small space on the rear of the mount with a circular indent. You place the privacy cap in there when you have the webcam on.There are some things that I noticed as well:-I’m not at all used to the all white base and the white privacy cap. I’m so used to an all black webcam, that it’s sometimes a distraction to catch it out of the corner of my eye. At the very least, they could have gone with a grey color instead of a stark white color.-while it is physically much longer than my Logitech C920, it balances well and is very sturdy on the top of my monitor.I checked image quality using Zoom, Skype and with Apple FaceTime; the image is clean, sharp... and I need a haircut. But here’s where things go wonky and confusing:HP promotes AI Auto Framing and 5X Zoom if you move about, Keystone Correction if tilted downwards, and the ability to color correct the image in changing light.NONE OF THESE ARE AVAILABLE ON A MAC OS COMPUTER.All of these features are available through HP’s Accessory Center software, which is Windows ONLY.So, off to the Mac Application Store, and I have to purchase a 3rd party application to have access to any of the features beyond “turn on camera” as a Mac user. Yes, I’m using a Mac, but for HP to disregard providing even the simplest control options for the MacOS is annoying and short-sighted.I’ve had this camera for over a week, had 6-7 chats so far... 10 mins to over 2 hours, and no one (yet) has leapt in fright at my sharp and crisp appearance, so that’s nice. Comments did mention that color seemed nice, and contrast and focus were spot on. Some of these meetings were in the day using natural light, and a few were at night using the lamps in the office... all came out well.Pros:-capable camera with good color resolution and the F2.0 lens permits lots of light for a clear image-tilt feature allows you to potentially shoot a takeapart video, crafts, or even scan a document. I haven’t tried this, but if you can do the keystone correction, then it should work ok-audio is clear without distortion or clippingCons:-I’m still on the fence about the white plastic on the mounting base and the privacy cap. The silver body is something I don’t really see since it’s facing me; but I may take some black matte vinyl that I have and cover over the white bits.If I had to do this over again, I’d likely go for the 965 all black model purely for aesthetics. Otherwise, the 960 is functionally equal to it and works great... ONCE you find a software solution. It is obnoxious that HP thinks that Mac users don’t buy anything other than Apple; I run Dell and Asus monitors for the image quality and price. I buy different brand peripherals because they work well. Dismissing the Mac-based consumer seems short-sighted.If you need a good solid image, no doubt... this is nice. Just be sure to check your options to make sure you can take advantage of it!
