The unit works well and setup is easy. I just have two issues with it. One issue is every once in a while the unit powers down and refuses to power back up until disconnected for several hours while the old manual unit is plugged in. The second is the ability to cycle the fan on every 15 minutes doesn't work at all, so you can't use it to freshen the air in the house, you have to leave it on all the time. Otherwise I would really like the unit, I just don't like finding out the heat has been off for a couple of days because the unit has decided to power off. I don't know why Honeywell took the batteries out of the unit instead of leaving it in like the manual version to avoid this issue, but it is what it is and I might just have to stay with the manual one to avoid it, so a waste of money.

Sure you can spend a LOT more on an internet connected thermostat but this one does everything you need it to do and it does it for a much lower price than NEST and other high priced options.Easy to install, easy to use with either a browser interface or a smartphone app interface. You can operate the thermostat as if you are standing right in front of the real thing. Plus, you can set the thermostat up to email you if the temperature becomes too high or too low...perfect if you are leaving your home unattended, especially in the winter when a frozen home and broken plumbing pipes can destroy your home.I love this thermostat and I wouldn't want to use anything else.

Purchased and installed with little problem. Just notice that this unit does require at least a 5 wire system to work (common ground) that many older analogue mercury thermostats may not use, requiring running of a new wire. The wifi app seems to work well and the scheduling options are robust. Seems to hold the temp as advertised within a few degrees of programmed temp. There are alot of setting and options to work with, but need the codes from the manual to read them as they are all number codes. You can even disable the wifi completely and use it as a traditional wall mount. Probably the biggest issue is it does not have a battery backup so if you lose power you lose your presets until it can reconnect with wifi and update (or you do it manually). If you don't lose power but only wifi no big deal, as the schedule has already been loaded into the device (until it loses power anyhow).

The thermostat *REQUIRES* both sides of the transformer, that means 3 wires *minimum*! Honeywell calls it the "common wire" in HVAC jargon. Because it's meant to be "professionally installed" the manual includes 14 different pictures! If a professional wrote the book, ONE single diagram would have conveyed more info!It took 3 calls to actually confirm the futility of calling -- my first call was routed after several automated prompts to a 3rd-world representative. The person hung up on me as soon as she got my phone number in case we were disconnected... I waited 3 minutes for a call back that never came. The second call routed me into a different automated hell that refused logically to respond to button presses, and kept taking me to "the next available representative will pick up" and "your call is very important to us" and "we value your business" lies. That wasted an additional 30 minutes.45 minutes after I began calling, the 3rd call, finally went to a gentleman who adhered strictly to his script. Between the digital delay, poor voice quality and a bit of a language barrier -- the rep spoke English well enough but was ignorant of colloquialism -- the call was a complete waste of time.Once I got past the nonsense and threw the installation guide in the trash, the rest of the job went smoothly. Two screws secure the backplate to the wall. The mount is lightweight, easy to level, and provides easy access to wires & contacts.Once again, forget what the manual says about configuring the thermostat. The step-by-step doesn't seem to apply to the PC or Windoze(tm)... perhaps a MAC(R)(tm) user mentality is what the guide expects.I had to dump my network settings, at which point I was able to connect a laptop to the thermostat's Wi-Fi interface. That enabled me to connect the device to *my* home network and not my neighbors... Once homed to my LAN, the device called home and established itself. Approximately 15 minutes later, the prompt appeared that indicated I could continue.During that time I downloaded and installed the app to my Android device, but had to wait for the thermostat to do whatever it was doing. I can't imagine what took so long considering I have high-speed service, and the device is a thermostat? It's not like it was downloading a virtual world; WoW or SecondLife or even a chess program...I am disappointed overall! The device only provides *FOUR* setpoints per day. Why? It's not as though there is a memory limitation. And it only offers 15 minute granularity. While I can understand why those limitations might make sense for users standing in the hallway setting their thermostat, the limitations *VANISH* with an internet programmable interface. The absurdity of the programming limitations are as if I bought a nice new family sedan, and replaced the drivetrain with that of a riding lawnmower! Someone at Honeywell had their blinders on nice and tight the day they did the feature analysis for this product line. The only consolation is that I was unable to find better for less than $400. I would have considered that other thermostat if I had reasonable expectation that they would be around in a year, and they weren't so "boutiquey", and if the price tag was more reasonable!Despite the negatives, Honeywell has been making thermostats far longer than I've been alive! That earns them enough trust that they win my business. I can only hope that someone reads this and considers the implications of "meeting expectations" when that is equivalent to "aiming low". This device is "adequate" when it could be ***so much more*** with virtually no downside risk!Since the heating season is over, I will not know if the anticipation feature of the software works as claimed until October or November. Barring infant failure, and, the Made In China manufacturing marks, I expect the device will provide at least 10 years of service, hopefully more.

Setup was pretty easy, you'll need a Wi-Fi enabled smart-phone or computer to initally setup. The stat becomes a router so you can log into it to give it your WiFi network name and password, then it can connect to its server. It's two-stage heating & cooling, but there's nothing to tell you what stage of heating (or cooling) is currently enabled, nor anyway to force it to use 1st or 2nd stage heating/cooling from what I can see so far. It automatically handles daylight savings time changes.I have not tested the adaptive control feature extensively, but it seems to work. Instead of selecting times when the setpoint changes (wake, return), just set the actual times of when you wake up and plan to return, and the stat will attempt to get to the setpoint by that time. For 2 stage heat/cooling you need 7 wires (2 for heat, 2 for cooling, 1 for fan, 1 24V hot, and a common ground). Unlike other stats, it has no batteries (they would be dead too fast powering the WiFi). It gets power from the furnace. If power is lost, settings are retained. When wiring, make sure to take a picture of the terminal block on the furnace so that you match up the correct wires on the stat. The lettering (R,G,C,W1,W2,Y1,Y2,K) is standard, but colors are not.The iPhone app is nice, easy to set a temporary setting with a specific expiration time. The unit won't connect to your phone directly. It has to connect through their server, for which they clearly state they reserve the right to charge a fee in the future, but is free for now. If you want to setup most days the same, use the app, otherwise you have to program each of the 7 days individually using the stat's interface. This is a nice upgrade from one of the many other Honeywell stats with the same basic (simple) design interface and layout, which has physical buttons. I chose this one for that primary reason. It was purchased to control a new furnace/AC (2H/2C) and replaced an existing 1H/1C programmable, non-WiFi, Honeywell stat.
