As a shaft encoder I do not use the digital output but rather the 0-5 volt analog azimuth positioning into an arduino uno which then is programed to readout in degrees. Repeatability seems to be good.

First and foremost -- it definitely works. I was able to "program" the angle boundaries using I2C and read off the angle of the included magnet. In the datasheet, there are three programming options. Two involve I2C ("Option A" and "Option C" in the datasheet), and one involves only the output/PGO (GPO on the board) pin. Due to a pullup resistor, R4, this last option (labeled "Option B" in the datasheet) is unavailable. However, for a breakout, I would be very skeptical that anyone wants to do any in-circuit programming, and as such the I2C interface is good enough. Obviously for a production use this would not be acceptable.Lastly, but most importantly, this sensor is VERY sensitive to the magnet positioning. If you do not have a jig to hold the magnet over the chip, expect some frustration. This is not a standalone hall sensor where you can wave the magnet around any which way and get a result. This chip assumes you have a shaft that is fixed in place and will rotate just above the chip.All in all, a decent breakout board for trying out the AS3600.

Tested with a 5V Arduino Nano and work perfectly after reconfiguring. They come with headers that need to be soldered on and they come with a special diametrically magnetized disc magnet. As sold they are 3.3V sensors. There is 0 ohm R1 on the board that when removed makes them a 5V device. This must be done to work with 5V arduino boards. Also R4 may have to be removed for some applications. I used the Seeed Studio AS5600 github library as I had trouble with the Arduino IDE standard library for some reason. Very happy with these sensors!

Magnet Selection Guide for AS5600 recommends a 6mm dia by 2.5mm mm thick magnet at the small end of the range. The magnet I was shipped is 3.8 mm dia and 1.8 mm thick. This magnet works, but positioning it is more sensitive to misalignment.Note that you need a diametrically polarized magnet, which are hard to find. K&J Magnetics has part number D42DIA which is 1/4" dia and 1/8" thick.

Ridiculous.Why bother giving a device the ability to communicate on I2C, but then have no way of having different ID's for each sensor.These sensors are all hardcoded to the same ID, so you can't have more than 1 sensor on a I2C bus.DOWNGRADED to 1 STAR - Analog Output doesn't even work. You have to desolder R4 Resistor in order to get it to work.Look for a different encoder. Do not buy these.
