Good robust construction. Sturdy, quality plastic. The long sheath that wraps around a stem keeps your hand well protected from thorns. What are referred to as "blades" are not blades at all. They are flat plates of metal glued to the plastic at right angles to the length of the sheath. They strip off the thorns by blunt force, not by cutting. You have to pull quite hard on a stem to get it through the opening and pull off thorns and leaves, so this will only work on a tough stem. Tender stems just break. This device worked midling fair for me. I am hoping that with practice it will work better. Meanwhile, I will keep looking for a device that CUTS off the thorns.

I used this rose thorn stripper for the first time this evening. It took some getting used to, and I did accidentally snap one stem by applying too much pressure. But, once I got the hang of it, it was pretty easy to use. I have many roses growing in my yard, but I often hesitate to clip them because of all the thorns (and because I have a tendency to prick myself frequently when I do). I think this tool may change that by allowing me to strip the thorns away quickly and easily after cutting (and before bringing them indoors). I'm looking forward to bringing more roses indoors this year!

I don't know if it is just the way that I used this rose thorn stripper, or if it doesn't work well. I could not strip a thin rose stem with this stripper. For my thicker rose stems with more gnarly thorns,I had to run it up an down several times to knock off any off the thorn the blades are not sharp. I do not know if they should be. I will try this stripper a few more times but I found r frustrating to use.

I don't have time with this yet. I will keep trying. Seems like it will work, build quality seems decent. Maybe it's my technique, most likely it is.
