I needed a U lock for my mountain bike and like having multiple layers of security. Most multi-layer (more than just one security device) U-lock packages come with a U lock and a cable, and cables are much easier to cut through. I have seen people cut through bike cables with simple wire cutters by cutting small portions at a time.I found this GEND U lock that comes with a chain and I like chains better than cables, so I ordered it.When I received it and opened the package to look at it, I was slightly disappointed that the lock body itself (the yellow and black part where the key unlocks it) had a big thick plastic shroud around it. I could move and shake it around a bit, indicating that the lock body must be much smaller than it appears in the images.I tried out the key mechanism, and it worked well. The shackle is nice and thick with a PVC or other plastic coating to help prevent scratches. The included holder is designed to mount on the side of one of your bike's tubes, so it will stick out more than some others, but I don't think that will be an issue for most people.I installed it and rode to a few bike racks that are not far from my home, and it worked on 2 of the 3 that I tried it on. The one that it didn't work on was because the pole of the bike rack was slightly bigger in diameter than the other 2 and this lock is on the smaller side (inside the U part of the lock), compared to many others.Overall, I think it's a good lock for the price point. However, you just need to make sure that what you are locking to is going to fit inside the shackle along with the bike part you are locking. The chain is a nice upgrade over using a secondary cable, so that's a plus.

These locks are so well made. I think the chain could be slightly thicker metal but I love that it’s wrapped with fabric so it doesn’t scratch up my bike and the u-lock itself is awesome. I purchased one for each of our bikes and I would buy them again.

This is a very sturdy lock that can be used for various occasions. You can feel the weight, but very easy to use... I like the functionality.

Lock is double locking shackle 14mm thick shaft with rubber protective sleeve 16mm. Double lock prevent twisting, will require to cuts to remove from secure post. Chain is 35" with square link is 6mm thick and noose link to secure wheels to shackle adding wheel security. Comes with sturdy lock bracket mount to bike frame. Key stay in lock while unlocked. Spend $$$ if you want angle grinderresistance. Shackle size big enough to secure both wheel and frame to a secure post and chain on opposite wheel to discourage theft of wheel. I think chain square link more secure than 10mm thick cable and flexible in cold freezing temperature.

It combines with steel chain and U-lock and spares keys. You can use the U-lock alone either pair it with steel chain. Both of them are very sturdy and weather resistant. It is a great price. I lock our both bikes on the tires.
