The open end part of the wrench has a little cog that is supposed to catch when removing a nut and then push in when moving it back the other way. The problem is that if access is limited to the nut, the wrench will not fit snugly to the nut for it to fit it and therefore not work.

It works like a charm... I needed the open end to be a gearwrench. So as not to have to remove the wrench end each turn, while sitting on the hot ground putting on the hitch stabilizer/silencer.
