A handy little gadget, but it's not perfect. The rubber material becomes more flexible as it heats, and sometimes the upper part of this cone-shaped thing sort of folds in on itself and droops into the pan. Also, it's difficult -- close to impossible -- to lift a pan and swish around its contents while using this. Nonetheless, it does indeed block grease, oil and other stuff from splattering all over the stove, so it makes clean-up much, much easier. If you're on the fence about buying one of these, I'd say it's worth ordering one to see if you like it

My husband and I are die hard fans of Cook’s Illustrated/America’s Test Kitchen. I saw this in their magazine and thought, “Do we really need this, and can we justify the cost?”. YES! You know what I hate the most? Cleaning the stove after frying. I wouldn’t say we do a lot of frying, but even a simple sauté can sometimes produce spatters all over the stove.I was skeptical despite Cook’s rating it highly. For the first try, I fried bacon over medium heat. While this worked very well keeping the stove clean, I wasn’t buying in just yet. Next test was frying homemade pierogis in butter followed by kielbasa, both which gave off some nice spattering grease. This got me excited because the grease spatters landed on the fry wall and not on the stove. My final test was a chicken and green bean stir fry over high heat. And yep, the fry wall kept the stove clean and contained spatters without any steam build up. I’m a convert. So far I’ve only used this with our Oxo 12” nonstick fry pan, but I’ve done a fit test in our Lodge 12” cast iron pan and it fits well. Finally, be patient using it. The first time it puckered and didn’t pay fully flat. However, by the second test it was fine. Just remember that this shouldn’t touch the pan bottom. It stands up against the sides. It might be a bit challenging with a pan with shallow sides.

Every time I fry anything, not only is my stove top covered in grease, but the floor around my stove is also covered in grease and I have to mop the floor every single time! I have tried everything I could think of to avoid having to mop the kitchen floor when I fry things, including laying big towels around the bottom of my stove, but the grease always seems to get on the floor one way or another. I was SO EXCITED when I saw this product! I don't really care about the grease on the stove top. All I really care about is the grease on the floor. So I finally had time to put my new Frywall to the test this weekend. I had 6 bone-in pork chops my husband was dying for me to cook. He likes them floured and pan fried in vegetable oil and MAN does it make a greasy mess, which is why I don't cook them much lol. I ALMOST went ahead and put towels on the floor "just in case", but I decided I wouldn't really know if it worked or not if I did that. Fitting the Frywall inside the pan was simple. If you follow the instructions that come with it, it is very easy as far as I'm concerned. I also found that cooking with the Frywall was not a problem at all. I thought it would be difficult to cook with that big thing sticking up out of the pan, but it just wasn't an issue for me at all. After I finished cooking the pork chops and before I even checked to see if any grease was on the stove top, I decided to go ahead and wash the Frywall by hand right then just to get it out of the way. My original plan was to just put it in the dishwasher and let the dishwasher do the work, but I decided that I didn't want to smell pork chop grease every time I opened the dishwasher until the dishwasher was full enough to run. Even though the Frywall did wash up well by hand, it was kind of a pain to do it. But if I didn't have any grease on my floor, that would be fine! As long as it did what I bought it to do, I would gladly wash it by hand if I needed to! Now came the time to see the results. Shockingly, there was quite a bit of grease on my stove top! After all the research I did before buying the Frywall and after reading review after review after review from people saying they didn't have any grease on their stove tops, I had quite a bit on mine. My stove top wasn't completely coated with grease like it usually is, but there was plenty of it there. Now on to the floor. UGH!!!!!!! Yes, there was quite a large amount of grease on my kitchen floor. I was, and still am, shocked. Also, while I was cooking the pork chops, my husband kept coming to the stove to see how it was going and since grease was apparently all over the floor in front of the stove, he was standing in the grease without realizing it and then proceeded to track it all over the kitchen! So I ended up having to mop the kitchen with Dawn...TWICE...just to get it all up LOL. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to love this product. I just knew that the inventor of the Frywall had changed my frying life! But unfortunately, that didn't happen. The only thing I can think of that would make a difference (for me anyway) is to make it about one foot taller in the pan! Hahahahahahahaha
