First let me say that as with most of festools products this is near perfection. Restrain your plunge with the thinner bits , especially at point of contact. Or replace broken bit with another like me.

One should think about this cutter as a specialized router bit with a fancy screw-on shank. This puts its pricing in the right ballpark for "comparable" router bits. The tip of the cutter is very hard carbide, the same type that can be found on good router bits. The trick about this bit / tool is that it not only rotates, but also oscillates If oscillating bit hits hard surface (even wood) before it can cut it, the power of the tool may break it. It is very important to make sure that the Domino is stable and held firmly before engaging the cutter. In the very beginning, as I was learning to use the Domino and was on my 10th or 15th mortise, I made the mistake of pushing the cutter in before the domino was firmly in place and was still moving relatively to the work piece. A little extra torque on the oscillating cutter broke off its tip in no time. I learned from this experience and made adjustments to my work flow: I push the cutter in slowly, move it out of mortise also slowly, and make sure that the Domino is firmly in place before cutting and cannot move while I am pushing in the cutter. One has to learn to separate the functions of the left hand (which holds the Domino in the position) and the right hand (which engages the cutter). With this, after 350+ mortises in maple, it still cuts as new. Very sharp, very long lasting. By the way, it arrives in a nice plastic container similar to those in which Freud router bits are shipped.
