I've built a few of these 3D metal model kits now - all Star Wars ones and absolutely love them. This is one of the easiest I've built and is one of the official Star Wars Metal Earth kits. There are a bunch of unofficial ones you can buy cheap off other sites, and I'll go into the difference in a bit.Let's start off by saying, these are not easy - although this was the easiest. I've read some reviews (not necessarily of this model) that say they wasted their money as they broke it. That can definitely happen. I broke one of the feet of R2D2 because I folded it a piece the wrong way. Then folding it back, and the subsequent manipulation made the piece weak and it snapped. I did manage to rescue it somewhat, so it wasn't a complete loss.TIP: This is the easiest one I've done to date. Another good one to start with, is Darth Vader's Tie Fighter. I would definitely recommend either this one or Darth Vader's Tie Fighter. AT-AT is also a good beginner one. You'll find with any of these models that you are not just folding the metal along the perforated lines, but also bending and shaping the metal pieces. The most common bending tends to be circular or into cylinders. A great tip which I found after hunting round the house for anything round that I could bend the pieces round (i.e. pens, cocktail sticks, screwdrivers etc...) was that I took my drill bit kit out of the shed and used all the different sized drill bits. I had loads, from small wood bits to large masonry bits and this was perfect as all the pieces of metal require different diameters. This one in particular has a number of different circular bends, so a good drill bit kit works really well.Best tools to use are:++ A pair of pointed tweezers (a good pair, not a cheap pair that will bend).++ You'll also want a desk light to shine down on your model as you're building it - you need lots of light. Often ceiling lights aren't enough++ Lots of cylinders of different diameters (as mentioned, a large drill bit kit is good, cocktail sticks, screwdrivers)++ I found a Stanley knife was best to snap the parts off the sheets++ A cutting mat - if not, a mat of some kind when you're snapping the parts offAnd most importantly, lots of patience!!! Darth Vader's tie fighter took me around 2 hours. R2D2 and Boba Fett's Slave 1 took around 4 to 5 hours. Some of the parts are extremely fiddly and small and if you rush it, you'll almost certainly go wrong.I also have a clip on desk magnifying glass now which is fantastic. I've built loads without it, so its no essential, however, it does help when trying to line up tabs in the tiny little holes.I got better and better as I've done more (I've created 11 now and have a nice little collection going). You'll learn techniques, like when its best to twist the tabs and when is best to fold them.TIP: Twisting a tab (after putting through the hole) will pull two bits together better than folding the tab over. You can get replica's from other sites, often in green packaging. They are pretty much the same but the instructions aren't anywhere near as good and the writing is in Chinese. I wouldn't recommend these to a beginner. Pay for the proper official ones. Once you've got the hang of it, the metal parts appear identical. But like I said, you do compromise on the instructions. An example is the official ones will tell you what side has the engraving on, on the instructions. The cheaper Chinese ones probably say the same, but they're in Chinese.I love creating these and find them very therapeutic. Can't wait to get some more - I'm getting a little addicted :-)
