While they may look like toys and are priced like toys, these walkie-talkies work brilliantly for any communication need. They gave a range of over a mile with perfect clarity! They are well made and should be very durable.Because they have extensive privacy features, you will want to read the instructions to set up channel selection and maintain privacy for your use. They will work immediately out of the box with the default settings, but other owners of walkies may be on the same channel. While this may seem unlikely, it happened to us as soon as we turned them on!The rechargeable battery is a big plus, as is the automatic "squawk" sound when a transmission is ended. No need to say "over" for back-and-forth conversations.They were a huge hit as a gift to 5 and 8 year old brothers. Highly recommended, both for fun and for practical use indoors or out.

Worked great for our outing in 2 cars into the Smokey Mountains with no cell service! Unfortunately a lot of other people were on the same channel so we picked up a lot of other voices and couldn’t figure out how to switch the channels (wasn’t intuitive/obvious and we didn’t have the directions with us). Seemed to have a decent range though, and worked all day while we were there. Hoping the batteries will still be good when we go again in June!
