I bought this book despite some critical reviews regarding errors and problems with the formatting in the kindle edition.I am glad I chose to buy it.Yes there are some awkward formatting issues, but not insurmountable...I had trouble finding the solutions at first. Also the solutions are almost always not on the same page as the image of the chess board in question which makes for a lot of swiping and tapping.A small but noticeable number of the solution have typos, or are wrong or there is a better solution... (e.g. 619) Knowing this from the other reviews I was forewarned...However:For my level (about 1500 on chess.com) coming back to chess after last playing before the internet, I have learned a huge amount: - concepts I simply did not know like x-ray, along with the basic patterns of checkmate for example... I now have a mental image of how to recognise 'epaulette checkmate' and I can spot all sorts of other things that beforehand I did not even know to look for. I was always rubbish at getting checkmate in OTB, having to finish by attrition usually, and now I know why...Prior to this book I understood the rules, principles of development and a few endgame mating strategies. I now have vastly improved board vision and pattern recognition. During play, previously, I often felt quite at a loss often in clearly superior positions... This book has provided me with a set of keys to unlock much more of the meaning of what I am seeing when I look at the board, and what to look for in the first instance.IMO the value of this book far outweighs its faults.

I have been learning how to play chess after only ever really knowing how the pieces move I’ve gotten a lot better recently but learning some opening principles, playing frequently and studying tactic puzzles. This book is very helpful and is user friendly and good for beginners/ adult improvers. Me and my 8 year old often do the puzzles together. He’s better at them than I am!

It's a well-written workbook that can help any beginner to intermediate player get better at chess tactics. Even a seasoned pro who's played for many years can benefit from the book refreshing the basics never gets old. The author says to write the answers in the book it's unnecessary you can write them in a spiral book and photo copy the exercises. There's 738 exercises all together. There is no way someone who works through the workbook will not improve. Another great book I'd recommend is Improve your Chess Tactics by Yakov Neishtadt, the former editor of 64 Chess Magazine in the Soviet Union.
