This product worked okay until the heating element overheated and ignited its own insulation about 3 months into some very light usage. Whatever safety mechanism prevents that was obviously not functioning. Obviously a very bad outcome. Don't skimp on tools that can burn your house down.

I used this to repair two items: a OG Playstation that I had for a quarter century but had blown a controller vibration fuse on, and a keyboard with a broken Type-C connector. In both instances, the hot air station did the job, getting hto enough to allow me to relatively quickly replace components without too much trouble and with no damage to the PCB and surrounding components. Those two jobs definitely paid for this station already.Using this hot air station is just like any other, so I'll skip those discussions. The important thing to know is that preheating the board at 200 degrees is fine, and so is turning it up to 450 degrees for regular PCBs. This is enough to remove a 16 pin surface mounted USB Type-C connector without much issue. The include nozzles do the job, but I wish that they came with bent nozzles. The interface for nozzle removals is annoying, since you actually do need a screw driver once the tips have gone through a few heating cycles.I wouldn't necessarily count on this unit to do a large quantity of soldering jobs. If you're doing some simple board repair work like I used this for that only requires a few minutes of use at a time, it's fantastic. But if you need stations that provide a wide range of heat at different airflows for long work sessions, this might not be sufficient. it's not necessarily because the controls don't work (actually I think heat and air control is pretty good), it's because I have durability concerns with using this station on high heat with low airspeeds over long periods of time. If you temper your expectations, this is a great machine.

This may not be the best on the market, and I don't care. A little solder paste and I'm finishing my projects in a fraction of the time.60 years old and my eyes and fine motor coordination are not what they once were. I can apply solder paste, position components, and heat everything up without difficulty. The benefit of soldering an entire board at once cannot be overstated.EDIT: I've had this for over six months and it is performing perfectly. With very little practice I'm proficient soldering both thru-hole and surface mount pieces. Quick and easy.

Here is some advice for newbies, you never turn on a new heat gun on high heat and low air. It will smoke and burn a unit almost every time regardless of the brand. Turn the air on high and low the heat down to around 200 as soon as you start it. Break in for about 5 minutes by letting it run on high air low heat. Now for my review, I bought this for the look to be honest I wasn't expecting much but it works well. Let me start by saying if you are picky about details you are going to return it. Unit has a few imperfections like case alinement around front cover and knobs. Heats very well and auto cools and reheats fast. I will update my review if it stops working or if problems.Update: Station is still working good 4 months later. Been using it like once a week or so and it heats and cools down without any problems. Caution my tester detects voltage / current near around housing so its not well insulated. I wouldn't touch it with wet hands.Update: Been about a year still working good. been remove chips without any problems. handle gets a little hot when long use but not too bad lite gloves would help.
