Excellent USB camera for DIY projects, SBCs and the like but you'll either need to use it in a project, provide separate housing or since there's nothing preventing its operation in exactly the way, so long as your careful and aware of the fact that it doesn't arrive contained in any housing, all should be well. One just needs to observe caution when handling, with special attention paid to the lens, as that's easily the most fragile part of the kit. If all that is copacetic, though, you really can't go wrong with an ELP USB Camera(especially the 16MP/4K models). However, if you're not planning to use it for a specific project or active else that calls for a bare bones component, you may elect to go for the model with the same Sony camera module but DOES come contained in housing, so that there's no need to worry about damaging the lens/handling it/etc:

I got this with the hopes of connecting it to a Raspberry Pi or some other SBC that's actually affordable in order to make a weather camera. The high resolution is important so I can see potential funnels forming in the clouds. The ability to see in low light is also critical for me. I had some struggles with Windows software, but the hardware seems very good. In the end, this seems to be working very well for how I want to use it, but some others may have some issues. The Camera app that comes with Windows will operate this camera, mostly. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me get it to run it at more than 8MP. The resolution is still phenomenal at 8MP, but it's still missing half the pixels. I tried app after app after app and kept running into the same problem. I finally found that AMCap will run it at full resolution, but only sometimes and crashes constantly. OBS Studio was the only windows application that I really got it to successfully and consistently run at full 16MP resolution. It also ran at the full stated frame rates. So I know the camera will do it, and well. I have a solid computer, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't run with the other software. I can't blame the camera for this, because I just don't know if the problem was in the software, my computer, or the camera. I doubt it's the camera because it worked just fine in OBS (and Linux later on).As my intended target for this is Ubuntu on a Raspberry Pi, I connected this up using Motion (free command-line webcam server) on an RPi. Worked instantly at full resolution, and at other smaller resolutions. The RPi was not able to process that high resolution as quickly as the camera can, so my frame rate is pretty low. But that's not the camera's issue and it works for what I'm looking for. No problems with Motion on Linux. My last large concern is low-light, and this camera performs. It can see in the dark almost as good as my eyes. In some conditions and aspects, arguably better. And this is BEFORE I have even messed with exposure settings, but just running on automatic. If my eyes are just barely able to something in the dark, this camera could almost see it. That's what I need to be able to see the clouds at night lit only by dim lights on the ground. The USB cable that it comes with can be detached, which can allow this to very easily be connected directly to an SBC or other embedded project without the need to use the USB connector. This can save space and weight in embedded projects.I have included two images taken from the camera. It is very difficult to portray lighting conditions, and I can't upload a full 16MP image. The dark image was literally all the lights in the room turned off, other than my 3D printer in the center. Yes it's dark, but the room was dark. Details can still be made out, almost as good as I could with by bare eyes. The light image shows an inset at full resolution (at least it was when I uploaded the image). Essentially the whole image is actually at the resolution of that inset.I hope this information helps.

I like this camera, it takes a very nice picture and produces great video on my PC. I used it on a Whatsapp video call with someone 6000 miles away (not that distance matters) and they told me the picture was great. It did work with my Raspberry Pi 4 using the VNC software but I never got the video to work well and the picture did not fill the entire screen, the bottom part was full of lines. The picture was very good though above the lines. I use cameras for the Pi that work great but they are not USB cameras and connect differently. A Raspberry Pi operates on various Linux operating systems so connecting and operating a USB camera is very different from Windows or a Macintosh. My experience with the Raspberry Pi is limited so just because I couldn't get it to work doesn't mean others can't, I'm sure there is a way and I just haven't found it yet. I won't stop looking. This is a very good camera, good auto focus and great picture, I only wish it had a case, a way to mount it on my monitor and I'd like to see a red light when it is operating. I don't think you'll be disappointed owning one. I'd give it a 5 star rating if it came with a case and red light on when it's operating.

This USB mini camera with zoom lens has a TON of features. just scroll down on the listing to see them further down. This is very serious hardware. I plugged it into my USB hub and it worked right away after finding the sofware. It can work on just about any operating system out there which is great. The zoom is much more powerful that I expected. I was thinking like cameras but much more powerful.I tested without the app as I wanted to see what it does just on its own and since I won't be the one using all the super tech features and don't feel qualified to do so. However I do know enough to say that list is very impressive. There are so many uses for such a camera I couldn't even begin to list them. I review plenty tech and seldom does any of it come this loaded without a huge price tag. This is an amazing camera, The camera itself is tiny, like an inch and bit cubed, and then the lens is compact also. Amazing tech. If I get to use more of the features I'll update my review, but may be a while so wanted to get a review out here as it deserves one.A very good deal. :)
