Used this to check some codes on my Volvo S60 2.5T and it connected to my Windows 10 laptop through FORscan software without a hitch. The usb cable is extra-long and the casing is made from durable plastic to include the OBD connector that fit snuggly into my cars port. I had to change one connection protocol to make things work but the reader displayed the information I was looking for. I wasn’t able to reset my codes and that was expected but that’s Volvo’s programming.

I am sure it is probably me but my old Windows 7 laptop just does not like this scan tool. Keeps locking up, will gift it to another grease monkey that has a newer operating system.

If you have a Ford and want to use the ForScan program, this would be a good purchase. The device attaches your car's ODBII port to your computer's USB port. There a switch to change between high speed and medium speed, which the software will prompt you to do when necessary. The instructions tell you how to download the ForScan software and how to get a free limited-time activation. I am going to try this with non-Ford software and see if I can communicate with other vehicles.

Thought I'd roll the dice and see if it worked with Forscan in HS mode - it does not, threw a bunch of errors and recommended I switch down to MS mode. Wasn't able to change any settings. Might be useful for reading codes if you don't have an ODB scanner, but I already have one of those.
