"I have an LG 12,000 BTU AC, and I recently broke the pins on the plug by accidentally stepping on it. I got this for a steal at $30 compared to $75 in stores, and it’s exactly the same as the one sold in stores. There was a weird electric murmuring sound coming from the AC when it was off but still plugged in, and it had been happening for over a year. Everyone online recommended buying a new AC, which I did not want to as I had only owned it for two years and couldn’t afford a replacement. However, after replacing the plug, THE SOUND IS GONE!! Now my AC works just like new. I absolutely LOVE IT!"

This cord came to my rescue during a great ordeal. Here’s the stitch. Both my condenser and air handler died back in March. I live in Florida so not having any AC became a matter of life or death. Thankfully I have a great relationship with my ex and his family kindly lent me not one but two portable AC units to keep me going until September when I had the funds to drop 8k in replacing my condenser and air handler. Well being a single 26 year old young woman and first time homeowner, there is a lot I don’t know and a lot of subsequent learned lessons. This being a prime example. So I had no idea you could not connect a portable AC unit to an extension cord. I went a few months without any issue and then one evening in July I am awoken to loud beeping sounds and my dogs going nuts. I was scared because not that long ago I was being stalked so my immediate thought goes there. I am paralyzed in fear in my bed. A few minutes goes by and no signs of a man crawling through my window so the coast seems clear. The beeping resumes. At that, I gained the courage to go investigate the source. My second guess was it was a fire and carbon monoxide alarm because it sounded just like one, however that couldn’t be right because I have none! (I’m a hot mess) As I got closer to the source of the beeps I realize it was originating from the portable AC unit. That can’t be right I thought, the AC unit is working just fine, cold air is blowing, what gives? I decide it’s just some weird fluke and return to bed. Well a few hours later I am awaken by the same beeping noise and since the sun is out so I decide I should probably get my butt out of bed and take a closer look. Low and behold I see the problem. The extension cord looks a bit melted. Oh no. After a quick google search I am made aware of my error. Not only is the extension cord melted but so is the power cord and the outlet! This isn’t good. Immediately feel overwhelmed and upset because I was being lent this unit by the kindness of others and I am responsible for damaging it. I let my ex’s family know and they tell me not to worry about it, accidents happen. I insist on replacing it and am struck down and told they would not accept a replacement even if I bought one. In the midst of my breakdown I receive a text from my best friend who informed her electrician father and he suggests that its possible I just need to replace the power cord to the unit, plug the unit into a different and non-melted outlet, and it’ll maybe be alright! Hope emerges. Google tells me why not. Amazon suggests a compatible cord. I add to cart, check out, and one day later, the cord arrives. Next part was horrible but turns out replacing this power cord was not going to be a simple job. The cord was delivered around 5pm. I was not done with the task until 11pm. I had to completely disassemble the unit to change out the cord. However it worked!!! Success!!! I still don’t know what I don’t know so it’s entirely possible this fries and causes my house to burn down but if that happens it’ll likely be a result of my human error

Was an exact replacement. Connectors already on ends. Was “plug and play”.

I've never done wiring repair before although I'm comfortable using tools from basic fixes on my sink, car, phone, computer, Nintendo switch and bicycle. I've taught myself how to do these things to save money; don't have any special experience. Difficulty wise, replacing this was somewhat more involved than replacing a phone battery. I popped the front panel out of 4 clips latching it into the side panels. Used a thin flathead screwdriver as a small pry bar for this. Then unscrewed the side panels with a standard Philips screwdriver. About 15 screws. More on the wiring below. Just wanted to say, a DIYer with some experience and physical strength can do this. Probably wouldn't try this is as my very first project though. We dropped our air conditioner out of the window during removal. Two of the internal wires were jerked out, stripped and ripped apart. One of the prongs in the unit got twisted, but I was able to bend it 90% back into shape with a small pair of angled pliers. The black wire with the 90˚ connector goes in the top cylindrical part with the other black and blue wires. The white wire actually won't even fit up there because it has a straight connector. The white wire attaches to the white box with red and yellow wires behind the bottom dial. They fit snuggly and require pliers to remove. The fit was still fairly tight with the twisted internal prong. The green grounding wire threads through a notch in the front panel and gets screwed into the metal inferior to the control dials. I tried turning on the AC and it initially didn't work. Make sure the dial is in the off position first. You may also need to hit the buttons on the plug.I couldn't find an exact video for this repair on youtube but watched a handful on other Frigidaire models and a/c units designed within the past few years. The videos were about how to take the air conditioner apart or replace the power cord.Note I bought the used one to save a few bucks and it works totally fine. It looked new. I'm guessing someone bought it and realized it didn't fit their model of air conditioner, was not able to take their a/c apart or found their a/c was broken for other reasons.

Purchased my first ever portable air conditioner unit this summer as it was very hot. Was happy with the product, but unfortunately my house rabbits got to it even though I had a cage around it and eviscerated the power cord! Due to the price point of the unit I was very happy to find a replacement power cord on Amazon for a reasonable cost. There were cheaper versions but this one got the best reviews. There are some videos on YouTube as to how to go about replacing it. It looked quite fiddly and frustrating but doable. Fortunately our electrician was coming over to do some other work and I just added that to the list of things to do. I noticed there was a few extra pieces, but he said it went fine and the unit is working as before. I have adjusted the rabbit proofing and I am hopeful for many years of usage.
