Once in a while a tool lives up to the hype and this one lives up to, and in my experience surpasses the hype!Buttery smooth operation (when using good bits IE: SpeTool, Amana, Freud etc...)The power is the difference. A while back I purchased a copy/off brand and it just doesnt come close to performing like the dewalt!

I've been using routers for years and owning this DeWalt DW618 kit since 2021. Based on my experience, compared to the others in the same category such as Bosch 1617EVSPK and Makita RF1101KIT, which I happen to also own, the Dewalt DW618PKB has proved just as capable, versatile and solid, if not more. Now, first start with the "pros":1) The router works flawlessly both when hand-held and mounted under a router table. The plunge base feels really smooth, its integrated dust collection system is kind of out-of-the-box thinking in my opinion, pretty cool as well as effective, not to mention also saving your money in accessories. I'm, however, just not sure why it isn't also available on the fixed base, making me wonder if it's just another one of those afterthoughts.2) The extra sub-base with a larger opening included in the kit is a nice accessory to have, especially if you need use large bits sometimes.3) The detachable power cord is a pretty neat feature -- No more entangled cable wrapped around the motor, making the storage a breeze.4) Believe it or not, this router is one of the very few mid/large-sized routers currently available in the market which won't give you a top-heavy/tipping feel when held in hands. You're gonna love this feature especially when doing hand-held routing.5) Last but certainly not least, the Dewalt kit carries an excellent QPR (Quality-Price Ratio), with top quality and versatile features competing head-to-head with Bosch 1617EVSPK and Makita RF1101KIT -- but all that coming at a lower price, making the DW618PKB a best buy which I'd highly recommend. Now onto the "cons" side.1) The noise level is only acceptable/mediocre I'd say, as I've seen better ones elsewhere.2) Lack of above-table adjustment. Not something a deal breaker but kind of annoying when using a router table. By the way, the lack of LED lights on the machine is probably not a real problem unless you plan to route in a dim environment, which I doubt would be the case for most users anyway.3) Also, it'd have been nice for DeWalt to include a straight edge guide in the kit as opposed to having customers buy one themselves.4) The one-wrench tightening could be either a blessing or a curse, all depending on whom you talk to, as it seems up to perennial debate anyway.Overall I think the DW618 is a great kit to have, well-designed and powerful enough to handle almost anything you may throw to her, be it at a shop or as a DYI'er.By the way, I've read several users complaining about their missing the 1/2" collet (or conversely, missing the 1/4" collet). To me, this is most likely not the case. Although I could be very well wrong on this, there seemed some change to Dewalt's production configuration lately due to whatever reason God knows. For the "DW618PKB" kits produced earlier (say before 2020?) most likely came with two dedicated collet assemblies (i.e. collet plus locking nut) for 1/2" and 1/4" shanks, respectively, whereas those made recently (~2020/21 and onwards) only equipped with a dedicated 1/2" collet assembly plus a 1/4" collet cone (aka "collet sleeve"). In the latter scenario, you'll need to pop the 1/4" collet cone into the 1/2" collet assembly before using any 1/4" bits, or take it out if intend to insert a 1/2"-shank bit. Anyway, probably not a very nice thing for Dewalt to cheap out on stuff like this, I'd say; but on the flip side, at least technically speaking you can't just claim missing the 1/2" (or the 1/4") collet, either. Anyway, hope this helps clarify any confusions around the collets included in the DW618PKB kit.Oh, before I forget, another interesting thing about the collets thought I should point out here was, while the "DW618PKB" kit provides only a 1/2" collet assembly plus a 1/4" collet cone, the "DW618PK" kit however DOES include two separate collet assemblies for 1/2" and 1/4" shanks, respectively, even though the /only/ difference between the two kits, according to Dewalt, should have been just that the former comes in a Dewalt bag while the latter in a Dewalt plastic blow-mold case -- There shouldn't have been any other difference whatsoever... Well, now back to confusions again, huh? ;-)

I bought this router when my old Makita had a cracked handle which could not be replaced. The Dewalt is excellent - an improvement in every way. I build high-end custom cabinets and doors for homeowners as well as historical wooden boats for the film industry. The ability to switch the base from fixed to plunge is a real plus. The machining is really quite amazing. Do yourself a favor and add the attachable fence to the order. If you plunge route, you need a fence eventually. The interchangeable chucks (1/2 and 1/4) are kinda neat to have. But, you're still going to want a smaller trim router for the 1/4 work.Don't let the lower power fool you. It has plenty of power to do any reasonable job. Plus, that smaller motor means the machine is lighter. That matters when you use a tool for hours at a time. I don't miss my big HP Makita one bit. Before purchase, I was concerned about the detachable power cord. That was, until I used the tool. By detaching, it really makes to tool easier to use when changing the setup and storing (detachable means no kinking the cord). So, it turned out to be a big plus. One tip I may offer to the Dewalt product managers: Sell the router as a complete kit with a fence and a proper sustainer hard case box that actually fits all the awkward pieces along with a tray for router bits and tools. While you are at it, make that box fit your existing line of sustainers.

I had to buy an inverter In order to reduce the input from 220 to 110 as the machine is only 120 volts, besides you have to buy a converter for the cable to be able to blug it.. Router quality is incomparable
