While this isn't an idea use-case for most people, this cable allows me to record episodes of my podcast with myself and either my co-host or a guest into my ipad using an audio app. I use hokusai, but it works with garageband and others as well. with two mics connected, it records a single stereo channel that splits each input into one left or right side of the stereo mix. This isn't ideal, but it does allow me to keep a light footprint or record on the fly as needed. Just bare in mind that you will not be able to adjust the individual mics until post production, so proper monitoring and setup before hand is required.

Limited use-cases I believe. For MacOS, you must use the Mac's free software that's included with your OS:Audio MIDI Setup .appWith this you can specify how you want your audio recorded. You can specify the audio signal as STEREO. There's no other way to split the tracks - that has to be done later with other software (e.g. Garage Band / LogicPro). If you must travel super-light, this is an OK solution. But doing so will then require more backend work vs. using a small mixer where audio levels can be normalized between people who, typically, speak at different volumes. So small and light enough to have in case of emergency. But if you're carrying 2 bigger mics anyway, why not a tiny mixer?
