When I happened across this DZ43100 Tailgate Assist on Amazon, I remembered how much I despised the heavy tailgate on my 2002 Silverado 2500 HD 4X4. Installation was quick, easy and the product seems well made. Functionally, it works well, allowing you to just pull the opening handle, release and stand back. The tail gate comes down smoothly and slowly without any drama.One comment that some buyers made was that the manufacturer supplied replacement bolt that holds the bottom of the air shock to the tail gate is too long by 1/16" and the tip wants to contact the body as it closes, just enough to nick the paint but not bend any metal. I noted this on mine before I did my first 'close'. To remedy this, I took a Dremel to it and knocked off just enough so it would clear. I put some clear coat on the end to seal it against rust. Easy fix. Time will tell how long the shock lasts.

This product was very easy to install, I purchased this a while ago and have had it on my truck since. I use my tailgate daily and even in winter -20 celsius it has always worked and always dropped easily. Will definitely be buying another for my next vehicle

Buen gadget, pero la calidad de la tornillería es buena a secas.Otro aspecto es que no queda perfecto yo tuve que rebajar la tuerca para que no pegara con la tapa al cerrar. Si no te fijas te llevas puesta la pintura

Such a simple upgrade that makes such a big difference in ease-of-use of your tailgate. No more forgetting to support the tailgate and having it crash open at the bottom.I can't comment on the longevity yet as it's only been a few weeks, but the installation was dead-simple and the value you get for the price just can't be beat. The design is very clever and doesn't interfere at all with everyday tailgate use.Does not affect the resistance of closing the tailgate in any way, just catches the tailgate when opening and gently supports it during the last ~30 degrees of rotation.UPDATE: Sold the truck that I had this installed on in early April 2021. So about 1 year 8 months since installation and it still worked perfectly until the day I sold the truck.
