Every homeowner's toolbox needs a big ol' pair of what my father called "water pump pliers" aka channel locks, and Crescent has been one of the more respected names in hand tools for decades, so i was very happy to give these monsters a go. I've used similar pliers pretty regularly, but had never tried the Auto-Bite style, and I wasn't sure how well it would work.It works pretty well, and you can disengage it when you don't want to use it, but there is one minor annoyance with the system. The Auto-Bite lever and the surface it rides on are not very smooth, and it can bind if the lever is fully extended, causing it to suddenly slip when you squeeze hard enough. If it were redesigned so that it wouldn't extend as far, or if the surface was ground smoother, it would work perfectly. As is, a few minutes with a good file, or a few months of wearing it in, should eliminate the binding.Other than the fairly minor binding issue, these pliers are excellent. The joint is a little loose, but they're not meant to be precision pliers, so that doesn't bother me at all. The rubber handles are thick and comfortable, and there is a spot on the rubber that you can use for a non-marring grip to open bottles or to grip shiny things you don't want to scuff. The V jaws are great for gripping all sorts of odd shapes, the teeth in the jaws are very sharp to provide a good grip, and the 12-inch length provides plenty of leverage. These pliers are a very welcome addition to my toolbox.

I have been gathering new tools of both Crescent and Craftsman lately and this is the latest one I grabbed. It takes a while to get use to how they work with the auto-bite lever but once you get the hang of it they work great and hang on tight. They have a very large opening to cover all sorts of tasks that you may come up against. They are very well made and I expect I will still be using them for many years.

It's nice to have a large set of pliers in the toolbox when you just need to rip something apart. Also comes in handy for larger plumbing fittings. The pliers are well made, the jaws are cut well and are sharp so they provide a good bite. The molding on the handle is comfortable and feels good in the hand allowing you to get a good grip and apply proper force to the pliers. The auto bite feature is nice for a fast adjustment and can be moved out of the way if you prefer not to use it.Overall a winner and a big chonk to have in your tool box.
