Just a little review and comparison of some of the different vented/cool weather long sleeve sun shirts that Colombia offers:Silver Ridge Utility LiteOverall this is a very good lightweight shirt for hot days. UPF40 provides plenty of sun protection without needing as much sunscreen. The material is very soft and breathable (close up it looks like there are lots of little squares in it), and unlike many synthetic shirts that I've had it has no problems with pilling. I hang dry my shirts, and these do not wrinkle enough to need ironing. There are large mesh covered vents in the back which let even a slight breeze through and help cool you down significantly. Opening the top couple closures on the front and unbuttoning the wrists makes it very airy and almost feels like you're wearing a t-shirt (with the sun protection benefit of long sleeves). It's sold as a hiking shirt, and works well for that purpose but you lose the cooling of the back vents when you pop a backpack on top.As far as features, there are a few strange things going on with the shirt. First, the top two buttons on the shirt under the neck are snaps. This makes it a little easier to open/close the front of the shirt while hiking, and the snaps seem to be well made but my preference would be for regular buttons. The rest of the front closures are regular buttons. The sleeves have two buttons on the wrist so you can adjust the looseness/tightness as desired. It's pretty easy to roll up the sleeves and there is a small strip of material that can be snapped into place to hold up the sleeve. The snaps are great in this application - much easier to use than fiddling around one handed with buttons. There are two pockets on the front of the shirt. The left pocket uses a Velcro closure and is side entry. This is weird and sort of annoying, so I usually just don't use this pocket. The pocket over your right breast is a regular pocket with a snap closure (I don't know why they didn't just go with two of these).Sizing is OK but slightly on the big side. The sleeves are plenty long enough, there's lots of room in the chest and the length is good. I'm 6', 200 lbs with a 43.5 inch chest and a 33 inch waist. I always get a size large in clothing, and fit a large with the Silver Ridge. The shirt doesn't look oversized on me, but is a little loose in the shoulders and waist - if you want a tightly fitted shirt, this isn't it. I think the loose fit helps with airflow and keeping you cool in the heat.As far as looks - because of how light weight the material is, the collar has a tendency to fall flat and doesn't want to stand up (you have to button all the way up to the top if you want the collar to stand up and block sun on your neck). The one bigger pocket than the other one isn't so noticeable that it looks silly, and the snaps look close enough to the buttons that they don't bug me.Silver Ridge Utility Lite PlaidThis is exactly the same cut and fit as the Silver Ridge Utility Lite. The features are all the same too. The only difference is that the Plaid versions are made of a different, slightly plastic-y feeling material. It's a little bit heavier weight, doesn't breathe quite as well, and I think it's better suited for spring/fall days than the hottest of the summer. It also seems to wrinkle a bit less than the non-Plaid versions of the Silver Ridge Utility Lite.Tamiami IIExactly same material as the Silver Ridge Utility Lite (not the Silver Ridge plaid), pretty much the same venting in the back. This shirt has a very similar sort of venting system as the Silver Ridge and it works just as well. Wearing it on really hot days, it seems to be the coolest feeling Colombia shirt I've tried - just edging out the Silver Ridge Lite. There is some sort of anti-microbial treatment on the shirt that seems to keep it from smelling as bad when you sweat in it too.All the front closures on the shirt are buttons. The strap of material to hold up the sleeves goes through a little loop of cord before fastening. Although the buttons on the Tamiami are tougher to do this up one handed than snaps they look nicer. There are four pockets on the front of the shirt, the two rearmost ones have mesh backs so act as additional vents. The two front ones are smaller and have Velcro to close them. There's a small loop of fabric on the front (supposed to be a fishing rod holder, but works fine to hold sunglasses - or just ignore) that is attached with a patch of Velcro on one side to it can be opened. The button down collar seems to stand up OK and provide some sun protection for the neck even when the top button of the shirt is open. There is a grey PFG triangular patch on the back of the shirt which I think is kind of ugly, but doesn't bother me enough to pull out a seam ripper and remove it.We have to talk about sizing here - it's really weird. This is a massively oversized shirt. I mentioned my measurements and that I always fit a size L. The size M Tamiami fits very slightly more fitted than the Silver Ridge in L, but is still on the big side. Sleeves are the same length, chest is about the same width. The neck is slightly smaller so if you have a very thick neck, are sizing down, and are planning to do up the top button of the shirt be aware that this might be a problem.Blood And Guts IVThis one is a different fabric. It seems to be softer and maybe a tiny bit thicker without sacrificing breathability over the Silver Ridge or Tamiami. Really a nice feeling material. Similar venting system on the back that works really well, but I'd say it's a touch warmer in the heat than the Tamiami. The collar on this one has hidden snaps so it stands up like a button down collar - and because of the material it seems to stand up better than the Tamiami. Other than those hidden snaps, buttons everywhere. Four front pockets with a flap held into place by Velcro over the larger back pocket. Same looping mechanism as the Tamiami. Only a single button on the wrist (so no adjusting wrist tightness). Same rod holder/sunglasses holder mechanism as the Tamiami. Same ugly grey triangular patch on the back. There is a small hidden microfiber patch at the front for wiping off sunglasses.Fit is regular sizing (I wear an L in this one as well). Still loose, but it's the best fitted between the Silver Ridge, Tamiami, and B&G. The shoulders are less loose and the waist isn't as billowy. I think this is the best looking of the shirts, and the one that works best as a dress shirt.
