I bought this jacket to wear in a freezing office. It is warm enough that I'm no longer shivering at my keyboard, but not bulky. Plus the black soft shell looks more professional than a fuzzy jacket or sweat shirt. As far as the fit goes: the jacket is too big. I'm basically always a medium in all tops. A medium in this jacket is at least 1, maybe even 2 sizes too large for me. It doesn't bother me. Let me count the ways it does not fit.-The arms are too long. I like this because I can cover my hands a little while typing. This is a bonus to me. It could only better if there were thumb holes.-The jacket is way too large in the torso. Even larger than the arms. I like this because I can wear it over literally anything. It's also more comfortable to sit in than a jacket that fits tightly.-The arms are too big. This doesn't bother me, because like the body of the jacket, I can wear the jacket over a sweater for extra warmth.-The shoulder is too wide. This is fine as I am constantly pulling the sleeve down any way to cover my hands (see above "arms too long" comment).-It's a little bit long. This probably bothers me the most. It's a slightly off length for sitting. It's not quite long enough to sit on, but if you don't sit on it, the jacket bunches up/gaps around my neck/shoulders. It doesn't really bother me too much. it probably doesn't look attractive, but the jacket is warm and comfortable.TL;DR: If you want a jacket that fits properly, size down 1 (or maybe even 2) size.

I ordered the Kruser Ridge jackets for my family for the purpose of layering and traveling with a lightweight, versatile jacket in unpredictable temperatures ranging from teens to 40's. Overall, these are great products and I would buy them again. The jacket handled rain and wind fine. We layered and used proper accessories for temperatures in the teens to 30's for short block walks, which was comfortable for me, but not my children when the wind picked up. For those who do not mind such conditions in small doses, this jacket paired with proper layers would be fine. For those who mind or dislike the cold, a heavier jacket might be better. I was able to wear this jacket over lightweight sweaters, but not bulkier sweaters. It layered fine over tailored fleece pullovers. The arms are very long and welcome as the sleeves are designed to protect the top of the back of the hands and allow for range of motion of thumb and fingers. I love that design and it worked fine with my lightweight gloves. As a side note, we donned the jackets for the two person job of bathing our 13 pound cat. My daughter and I had wet sleeves due to getting the water inside of the sleeves, and were well protected when said kitty wanted to crawl (read claw) her way out of the situation. Her clipped nails did not leave any marks on the fabric of the jackets. So, these jackets would be great for hiking to provide protection in rougher trail conditions when possibly grazing against anything. They dried quickly.Love, love, love the purple dahlia color, which is more like an eggplant color than maroon. The drawstring on the hem helps with blocking wind. The length is great hitting a little below the hips, but not full parka length. There are no inside pockets and no armpit zippers. Additional inside pockets would be helpful.

Bought as a Christmas gift for my wife. The main gripe is the sleeve length, a common problem I find with ALL Columbia products. The sleeves are too long, otherwise fits fine but note that the sizes run small. My wife normally takes a small in such products but had to upsize to a medium this time. I found it really odd that even the smaller sized jacket had ridiculously long sleeves on it.Regarding the sleeves, she had to go to a local seamstress to get them shortened (does Columbia think all of it's customers have arms that extend below their knees???). If you do go that route, try to get the seamstress/tailor to taper the sleeves. My wife didn't ask for that so now they are a bit big at the sleeve opening but at least they sleeves 6" too long. The only improvement I'd make is making the sleeves shorter AND adding elastic or velcro adjust straps on the openings. Otherwise it's a nice jacket, ideal for 40-60F temps and windy and/or damp conditions.

I am a HUGE fan of the Columbia Kruser Ridge soft shell. I have it in three colors and wear them alllll the time when the cool air finally arrives in the fall...and even through the winter and spring. I find them to be colorful and cheery and the fit for me is just fantastic. I am 5'7" and weigh about 162 pounds. The medium works quite well. It is fitted and very VERY flattering and slimming. I have room for a light shirt or two layered underneath, but likely not a heavy sweater. One of my favorite things about this jacket is the complete free range of movement that I have in my arms. The jacket is roomy in the shoulders, but not too much so...just enough to make it so I can raise my arms up over my head and the jacket doesn't ride up. LOVELY and a rare thing for me. The arms are too long for me, but I just roll the wrists up into a cuff...problem solved. And this jacket has a WONDERFUL length...long enough to cover a longer shirt. Why are companies making jackets so short these days when athletic wear (shirts) are so long? This one covers that base beautifully. As for color, I have the Stormy Blue: It's a bit deeper than shown and is a cooler blue. It's really pretty. My Haute Pink is not as electric as shown on the site...it's a bit deeper and in truth, much prettier in person. The plum seems to be pretty close to the same. These jackets are amazingly warm. They block the wind completely and rain beads up on them...although I'm sure in a long downpour the rain might eventually soak through. But the jacket dries VERY quickly. Since the jacket is stain resistant, it is ideal for camping, hiking or anything else that takes you outdoors. But it is pretty enough to wear in town shopping. It is more like a tailored blazer than a sport jacket. I really like that about it.
