I purchased these Columbia jackets last minute for a rainy day at Disneyland. They are lightweight and easy to stuff multiple jackets into one backpack (I have 4 kids). We live in SoCal and use them as our rain jackets. We also brought them on our trip to the PNW coast and layered with sweatshirts to keep us warm and put these on to protect from rain and wind. As a mom of 4, these have been a great find!

This jacket was more lightweight than I expected. I live in Southern California so a thick jacket is not necessary. I do prefer jackets like this with fleece but needed it in a bind. It works well with a hoodie underneath but I would not just put this over a t-shirt on a cold day. it's so thin, its almost see thru.

We received this a few weeks ago and it was in great shape on arrival. We just got to really put it to the test this morning. We got a solid downpour while my son needed to walk to the bus stop. I was soaked to the bone and his pants were soaked through, but his top half, covered by this jacket, was bone dry. Even the hair that hangs down in his face a little was dry, so the hood is effective. The jacket is made of one layer of material and protects against rain and wind. It's hot and humid here, so I wouldn't know if it fends off the cold well. My son is quite tall for his age (7 years and 53 inches) and the medium fits well. It may fit through next summer too. I'll gladly buy another when he outgrows this one.

This is, in fact, waterproof, but you should note that that is all it is. The material is sort of like a rain poncho. There is no lining at all. It is thinner and cheaper seeming than I expected, but it does seem to prevent rain. I feel skeptical about how long it will last given how thin it is, but I will update at the sixth month mark. So far my son has worn it a few times in the rain and it does, in fact, keep the rain out.
