Excellent edge out of the box, so much I kept it like that for a good while. Definitelyappreciated a good sharpening though.Handle might feel strange at first and is somewhat vulnerable to heat but overall excellent knife to keep around or as a back up tool and the low price makes it a good buy no matter the use you make of it, even if its just for cooking or an outdoors lifestyle.

This is an excellent knife for the outdoors person who needs a sharp, sturdy blade at an economical cost. The looks are nothing fancy, but the design is based on the standard Finnish hunting knife (pukko) that has been used for centuries ... and for good reason. This style of handle fits securely in the palm, and the polypropylene grip makes it easier to hang on to when it is wet or slippery with blood. I use this knife for kayak hunting, and keep it on deck in case my camouflage rigging gets snagged up in logs, branches, etc. When you are in remote situations in extreme conditions, it is always good to have a knife on board. The blade is sharp as all get-out, and you don't want to handle this knife blithely ... it will cut you if you are not careful. This, too, is common among Finnish blades, which are generally wicked sharp and need to be handled with caution ... but it will cut through rope, wood, cord or hide as slick as butter, and that is no exaggeration. The sheath that accompanies this knife is nothing fancy to look at, but the truth is, it does its job well, encases the knife firmly so there is no chance of losing the knife when you are wading through the puckerbrush ... but at the same time, the design of the sheath makes it easy to slip the knife free whenever you need to. No problems, there. In short, after having thoroughly field tested this knife, I can safely say that it will stand up to the toughest conditions. It is not a showpiece, though I think it looks handsome enough, but when you are thinking about utility blades (as opposed to a show blade), then flashiness is a detriment, as glittering metalwork often flickers in the sun and scares animals and fish away. I heartily endorse this blade, an excellent choice for a work knife, a back up, a spare.
