It was easy to install but the digital instructions do suck a bit. Once all the bar pieces are in the proper configuration it went up fast. I didn’t bother with the app for opening the door but the preprogrammed fobs worked and I paired to my spouses universal cars opener no problem. I would buy again.

The opener was installed by a professional installer. It works perfectly and very quietly. My only issue is that the photo of the product and description is not correct. A wireless keyless opener was not included. I advised the supplier of the error. They acknowledged their mistake and offered me a $50 rebate which I accepted. I have not yet received the $50.

I replaced a 15 year old 1/2 hp Chamberlain LiftMaster chain drive motor unit, with this one. I purchased the unit from Amazon, and had a local garage door company install for a nominal fee. (I didn't feel comfortable replacing the motor unit myself)So, I can't speak to the ease of installation, or replacement installation... other than to say, it only took 30 minutes for the local garage door company's technician to replace the new Chamberlain motor unit + interior wall mounted controller + exterior keypad, & also programmed the new car remotes/controllers. All in 30 minutes. As part of that installation, the local technician used my existing single one-piece rail & full chain system, that was already in place from my older unit. He just replaced the motor unit as part of the assembly.Which brings me to my 2 star rating for "sturdiness" -- Before replacing only the motor unit, he explained to me that this newer unit... while it *does* come with a rail and a chain system in the box... the new unit rail is not a single, one-piece rail (obviously, based on the box size)... it's a rail system comprised of 5 attaching parts. Which could be more prone to failure, than a single one-piece rail system.Additionally, the chain that came with this new unit is a 80/20 chain system. It's about 80% of actual chain, and the other 20% is tied together with a steel thread. Which obviously is not as strong/resilient as a full chain system. The technician literally told me: "Your existing single piece rail & single piece chain will have a longer life than this new motor unit you just bought."For that reason... for "sturdiness" of the overall product, I ranked 2 stars. As for the motor unit itself... I am very pleased with it.- Installation was a breeze, if you're replacing an existing 1/2 hp Chamberlain LiftMaster motor unit.- It is MUCH more quiet than the previous generation of Chamberlain LiftMaster motor units.- This model has two lights, as opposed to a single light in my previous Chamberlain unit. It makes a world of difference.- The myQ app that works with your home's wifi is for the most part, very good. You can control open/close of the garage door from anywhere, and you can setup alerts on your smartphone to notify you anytime the garage door is opened/closed. You can even add "guests" to the myQ mobile app, so they can open/close your garage door... say, if you're out of town & they're taking care of your house/pets/etcThat said about the myQ wifi app, some "drawbacks" that I've noticed about the myQ wifi app:1. The myQ app does not have a function to turn on the motor unit's lights, nor engage the "lock" function of the motor unit... from the app (as you would using the interior wall mounted controller)2. The myQ app is VERY persistent about suggesting you to setup your wifi controlled garage door opener, to allow for Amazon deliveries. In the initial setup to connect the unit to your wifi, the phone app will say "setup complete" and then take you a screen that prompts to allow for Amazon deliveries, for Prime members. You have to close out of the app setup to decline allowing Amazon delivery access, without knowing whether it really is completed (it is). Some other notes:- This newer unit uses a different frequency than the older generation(s) of Chamberlain LiftMaster units. Expect to need: new car remotes, new interior wall mounted controller, new exterior keypad. Although our Chamberlain universal car remotes we bought 5 years ago from a local hardware store, they could still be programmed to control this new unit.- While the pictures of the interior wall mounted controller doesn't show it, the interior wall mounted controller DOES include a "lock" function (hidden under the fold-up open/close button), as well as a "light" functionAll in all, I am very pleased with this new Chamberlain LiftMaster unit.

I bought this opener to replace a 20+ year old craftsman model that seems to have trashed internal gears (the motor runs but the drive gear for the chain does not). I found everything in the box as described in the offering on Amazon. Everything works as described and the documentation is quite good - proper English, descriptive, detailed, and accurate. For the installation I cheated. When I removed the old motor and set it next to the new kit I noticed that the drive gear was exactly the same. Looking at the chain I realized that it is really just a long bicycle chain and this may be a standard. On closer inspection, I saw that the mounting bolts for the new and old drive units were in the same places. In fact, the bolts were exactly the same. I read through the directions and saw that the installation matched every existing component in the old opener except for some small differences in the brackets that attached the chain to the traveling slide and that slide to the door. All I did was loosen the chain, attach the motor, tighten the chain, and it just worked with the old chain, rail, and door attachments. I DID have to replace the old opening switch, add the optical interrupt (to keep my dogs from getting squashed when they race the closing door in or out), add the outside programmable switch, configure the trucks and cars to use the onboard openers, and setup the WiFi and apps, but the physical installation was greatly shortened. This took me a good 4-5 hours, but an hour was pulling off the old motor. I know how to do it now and I think I could do the same physical HW part in about 2 hours (mostly running the wires) and take about an hour for all the configurations and adjustments.I suspect I’d take a good 4-5 hours if I’d have done it all from scratch with nothing to remove.Have a good 6 or 7 foot ladder for this. My 5 ft one was a little too low to set the unit on, attach to the rail, and then lift to the brackets. With a 6 or 7 foot and something to set it on you can get the unit to the right height for a bracket, no holding the damned heavy thing up with one arm or shoulder and getting bolts into the brace/bracket with the other.Have a 1/2 inch socket, deep well socket, open-end wrench, and box wrench handy (yep, all 4, and a ratcheting box wrench is especially useful for the chain tension adjustment). Besides that it is mostly Phillips head screwdrivers and a hammer for the staples (I cheated there, too, and used a powered staple gun). The network based opener requires getting myQ installed on your phone and creating an account. It does not work with Alexa out of the box and, do far, the limited attempts I have made at integrating with Alexa using other interfaces like IFTTT have failed. The myQ app works fine, though, and you can use that effectively on its own. It is a bit simple, but have alerts, tells you how long a door has been open or closed, if it is opening or closing, and, of course, opens and closes the door from anywhere.I can go on with other features, but overall it is all it is advertised yo be, opens my door, pretty quiet for a chain drive, and is very feature-full. I don’t actually like them too quiet. I had a very quiet screw drive at another house and I and my dogs did not hear it when it RSM. I like the dogs alerting and my hearing when they open.I am not sure if these two devices, the old Craftsman and this Chamberlain model had a common root manufacturer, maybe Craftsman relabeled or sold the company to Chamberlain, or if these are amazingly standardized (I suspect the former), but I am getting a second one to replace the other Craftsman on my other door. I will have almost 2 full sets of rails, mounting HW, and chains for parts, too. Hmm, what project or toy to use an old 1/2 horsepower opener for ....
